The only positive thing I see with the Subie version is a wider stance...but other than that, taller, longer, heavier? No thanks. I'll take RWD over AWD anyway.

yarik, screw the STi and Evo if you decide you won't get the GT-4...get this instead!

I'm not sure that I totally believe the 7tune's sizes. It seems pretty unlikey to me that the Subaru 216A will have a longer wheelbase that the FT86 given that the whole purpose of the project was to standardise on the chassis and drivetrain components as much as possible so as to keep costs down.

Interestingly, the inside of the Subaru is depicted as the same as the ft-86. I question if this even came from Subaru or if some home enthusiast did their own artists impression.

If I was to purchase either of these babies it would be a subaru version. For obvious reasons it would cost 30-35 grand because essentially it would be a 2 door subaru sti. BUT.... it is to debut in Japan in 2011 meaning that it may or may not ever make it to us market in subaru form. If it ever does it will be in 2012 at the least and probably tuned down so much that its "green" will be flowing at half the horse power or with less than half of features.

On the other hand an sti or evo are available now, cheaper and with 4 doors. Gt-4 is certainly an option. Just because I say I will be purchasing evo... does not give it a 100 percent guarantee. Also while gt-4 would be cheaper to my pocket, it would be as illegal as driving backwards on a highway. But evo.. on the other hand... ohh so available

Almost looks like the Toyota bumper (looking at the lower vents) is like our preface whereas the Subie bumper is like our facelift.

I don't really know what they are going for with the whole "G Sports" thing. Sounds to me like a variation of TRD... which has been around for a long time and is already established. But whatever, as long as they actually make this car.

I think for Toyota it's much like the F-Series Lexus' they're making; the IS-F and rumored GS-F. I think with Toyoda's goal to bring new excitement to Toyota automotive I think a new Sports division makes sense; Toyota of old is changing and TRD of old is changing with it. Also, Gazoo is now Toyota's automotive racing division in Japan so I think they have what it takes to pull this off.

The idea of there being a new incarnation of the Celica isn't a new idea, that rumor's been around for a few years now. i don't think it's gonna happen, at this point it would be taking 2 steps backwards; that's why Scion came into play, to take over the demographic the Celica was marketed towards

Its released for sale in japan in 2011 so that means quarter 4 of this year possibly because thats about when the new cars are released. If its what I think we will not be seeing this car at all in the US.

Yeah, but Scion's sales have been falling every year...the brand is pretty much at a stand still or dying. As much as I want this to be the new Celica, and I really hope it is, there is always the possibility this could be a Scion when it hits American shores. I just hope not.

Also, the FT-86 is pretty much coming to the States; maybe not turbocharged but we'll see it in 2012.

I definitely like this newer bumper more. Too bad we can't see pics of a revised interior. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but I'm liking where this is going. Like I said in the chat earlier, as long as this car is at least as fast as a 7th gen Celica, I'll be fine with however it turns out. RWD, semi-quick, it'll at least handle decently well. I also hope to see these in the D1 GP.

It seems like a bit of a honda thing to do. A larger badge totally, a huge is just... ehh tongue.gif.

Oh no I love the red badge as well smile.gif, just an oversized red badge on every toyota made would off-put me from the product.

i guess its a start... but i cant say that im very happy with the weak ass horsepower output and no AWD. at least toyota is trying... i still say they put a 4th gen in it and give subaru a run for its money

what i cant get my head around is how they keep going on about it being the new ae86, even going as far as calling it the ft86, its a million miles away from the idea of the ae86, if it were a sub 1000kg, low powered na car that cost little more than a nomral hatchback, then you could say it has its roots in the ae86, but it'll probably be about 1400kg, and have turbo charged and 4wd variants, and favour luxury and design over low weight, its the new celica, not the new ae86 corolla lol, another example of a car company picking something popular from there past and using it to sell something completely different whilst the masses dont notice until its too late kindasad.gif i'm all for it i just wish they would stop mucking around saying its the new ae86 when its a bloomin celica replacement laugh.gif
ya with technology of today, it should be weighting somewhere around 1000 kg. I mean theres just too much technology and gps, drive by wire and all that bs. Just like you said its not even an ae86. As much as toyota and many others would like to think that its another ae86, in reality with the boxer engine and the fact that it wont be a leightweight it doesnt even come close to an ae86. ha it would be funny if this thing, went up against the ae86 on the togue and lost.

I would rather have honda and toyota build a 2.0 ltr with 240hp and 200 ft lbs of torque. None of that i-vtec or vvtl-i bs. Dual VVT-I would do it. Are boxer engine's somewhat leight??

Light weight...I thought this was supposed to be around 2500-2600 pounds? That's pretty damn light.

'97 ST\ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+[sold 10/18]'93 MX-5LE
I dont beleive it will be that light, maybe i'll be pleasently surprised but i reckon it'll be somewhere between 1300 and 1400, just the way that size of car is these days, i mean small hatchbacks like the renault clio 200 and corsa vxr we get here in the uk are about 1200kg, i cant see a larger rear drive coupe with a boxer engine up front being lighter, specially the turbo versions, its bound to be heavier.
ok maybe 1000 kg is a bit too light for a rwd car. But Ideally no more than 2400 lbs would be awesome
