Suggestion: Members Ride/Car diaries - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #71107 96 posts Started by whatthe
Putting this out there. If mods/admin wish to create a Members Ride/Car diaries section for member who wish to create a diary?
As certain members are putting it in General Chat and some are putting it in Multimedia.

Cool idea, small update though, call it a journal. Its a bit more manly wink.gif

Brand new 6gc owner! (sort of 2011)The world is moving around a sun, the sun moves around a local arm of the galaxy, the local arm of the galaxy moves around a gigantic black hole.
i wish we had some way of making changes to the site.
but since chris is the only one who can, and is never around, it isnt going to happen any time soon, sorry.

I will return one day.
^^^ lol,

i have been asking for the ability to get extra pictures, but I know it never happens, my biggest fear is one day this site will be non-existant, and then what?

Lets be thankful he still has it on the air. Thats at least something......

If this site ever dies, what will happen to all the knowledge?

ok completely off topic but i have to say i have the same fears... i mean... i get all my parts here... sell all my parts here... share all my knowledge and have learned so much...

i think it may be appropriate to start a little fundraiser for coomer... i mean hes kept this thing running for so long and doesn't even have a celica!!

with the permission of the Mods, i want to start a fundraiser for coomer... i think a lot of people would be happy to pitch in a few bucks to make sure this thing stays alive... i mean look how many people we have on here daily... members... if everyone pitches in a 10 spot... just a thought

Breaking Axles...
permission denied.

i've talked with chris before about taking some $ from members to run the site, hell, i've offered to cover the costs myself to keep the site up to date and to keep adding features, ect. he just wont accept it.
my hands are pretty much tied up at this point as far as the site is concerned.
its really starting to feel like the old celica.net site that ended up leading to this site, and later celicatech being created because of this very kind of problem. (the og's will know what im talking about here)
its really a shame.

wow i just saw that site, its really dead no new posts in one year....

so thats the story behind this site... Its a shame.. It always happens that way.

i believe there is only but a few hundred members that keep this site active, all the good ones are selling their cars..

Don't worry guys! A good portion of those members who keep this site alive sold their Celicas a long time ago laugh.gif . It's a really good site, and for every member who sells their Celica, there is a new Celica owner. New Celica owners are going to be the future of the site, so for those current owners who decide to sell their Celicas, please take 6gc.net into consideration and watch who you sell your car to smile.gif .
I've mentioned to Coomer multiple times about a paid membership with extra benefits: larger PM box, more pics, Premier Members only where there are no 'rules' really.... They did this on my350z.com and it works awesome. I paid $30 for a year and the 'anything goes' section alone is worth the money. Also we get a little "premier member' emblem under our name.
That would be awesome DB but I think Coomer is gone...I sent him a message on facebook for permission to use the 6gc logo but he never got back. Its sad but he did create a great site. I would def pay for a Premier membership.

facebookWRC st205
I messaged him again today, and I still have his cell number and I might give him a ring
It is a shame......

Coomer never responds to any messages i send......

As soon as a few of the main posters sell their Celicas, this site will die kindasad.gif

The sad part is I have this odd feeling Coomer doesn't mind if this site fades away frown.gif He seems like a really nice guy but just lost interest in Celica's completely.

I saw he was working on an iphone app for his other sites...a 6gc app would be cool lol.

I don't see why he doesn't hand the site over to Manny who can lets say make griffgirl a mod and she can do all the programming or w/e that goes into a site.

facebookWRC st205
^I would agree with that, maybe not the handing-it-over-to-Manny part...wink.gif

But that would work. I could see Luke running the site as well..

there is only about ten users that contribute with 90% of the knowledge here, the rest of us are just learning.

Its a shame this site is not as active as it was 2 years ago, when i came in, more people doing real swaps, now is all very quiet, here and there. Nothing really exciting going on...

i don't know about that.... the swap section has been pretty busy lately it seems.... it seems everyone is jumping into a 3s swap now...

this thread makes me sad frown.gif

Breaking Axles...
IIRC Coomer went into the chatroom around a year ago and there were only 2 or 3 ppl in there at the time. Hope he doesn't think that was a sign of things to come!! It was late at night like around midnight. He said the basics--"Hi how's it going?"...etc. IDK if he's tried since or still drops into chatroom.
I would also VERY MUCH consider an anual fee or donation to keep this site going. I mean I have learned some stuff from MANY of you individualy & reading threads. There is SO MUCH MORE to learn & share!!
The Haynes book is ok, but details aren't covered very well--this community fills in the blanks!!AND THEN SOME!!!
Parts, ideas, pics, feed back, YOU FOLKS, etc-- CAN NOT BE REPLACED!! 6GC is a FANTASTIC SITE!
WOOTS to the mods for ALL THEY DO also!!!!

(edit)
I don't want ANY ownership-- I have no qualms paying dues!!

I'm really sad reading what is written here aboit Coomer... frown.gif. 6gc.net is great place and only one "home forum" I have. Ther are many other forums I participate but this is only one I feel like at home... It would be really sad to find out this site is fading away.

No more replicas... This is evolution... This isSS-four:)________[Featured Celica of 6gc.net @ 2010]_________
^ Then it's up to the members who care (like us) to contribute if necessary. I'm down to donate if need be. But if something were to fail with the code and the site would crash, and only Coomer could fix it...we'd all be royally f*cked.

wish there would be away to save all this info...

i mean, ive been on celica tech and the uk site, and it is not for a 6gc, not the same people.

well, well just keep beating the dead horse, on and on and on..

There is no quick fixie here, we need to pick a gear, lose the brakes, and pedal our way towards the future of 6GC. Bring your bicycle helmets.

I will return one day.
I think what we really need is to switch gears completely. We have all (well old farts anyways) been on this site since basically day 1. It would be a good idea to take 6gc.net and make it a 6gc.net club welcoming old members back with other cars. Face it lads... celica is an aging car and there is no substitute for it. 90% of people on this forum could not afford to purchase a new celica (if we were to commission some shop out there to actually build brand new 6gc celicas) and 90% of those who left are driving another car. We need to give them a reason to come back. Since our community is a friendly community but its not a "royal following community"... our community is an aging community.

Think of low riders. Does not matter what car you drive as long as its a low rider and is 1900-1980 car. Think of drifer cars. Does not matter what make or model but those lads end up having a heck of a fun time every weekend. Think of mud racers and rally enthusiasts and other car nieches where people kind of huddle together.

We rarely have get together events and when we do we usually have questionable turnout. Not like usa is a small country or island nation where there are 100 celicas and all 100 come. That aside I think one of the reasons why we are loosing members is because there is no upgrade for a celica... well there is the 7th generation but we all know that 6gc is the best celi ever.

I keep bringing up mutsubishi evolutions (partly since I can practically taste the smell of my future car) but their community is like a cult. Does not matter if you drive evo 1 or evo 10.. you are a part of a special nieche of enthusiasts. In many ways it builds community, especially if your first car was evo and your next car will be evo and your car after that will be an evo etc and all evos kind of flock together. I learned it first hand since I attend evo meets all the time. Here in florida (where we cant seem to properly organize a celica meet) there are several chapters of evo club and they all meet several times a year with a huuuuuuuge turn out. Last one counted like a cajillion cars. All passionate and forever evo addicts.

With celicas.. I think we need to bring the old spark back.. well at least people like Ferdie should. They are the "us" from 2002. They just got their celicas and that new smell of an old car is still in their veins and their brains are filled with excitement.

In all truth I would not mind pitching in for a website and I am sure other members would too. We could call it the same thing but add a little sense of community into it. It is hard to make people do things they do not want... but regular meetings and outings and other miscellaneous events could potentially bring back our good old community from brink of extinction. Maybe 6gc.net stickers that we can give to all members to promote the site or something...

For 10 years I thought of ways to make our community active and after 10 years of theorizing I came to a conclusion that personal commitment is THE key to community's success.
Here is a link to what other car communities do on a regular basis.

Captain Pessimist

You guys are failing to realize one thing.
It's not about money. If that were the case, the site would have been long gone a long time ago.
Chris has just decided it's not worth it to him to take the time needed to keep the site moving forward.
He's busy with other things.
It has been that way for a few years now, he just comes around less and less to the post where when the site goes down is the only time he is active now.
I have been trying to get him to do a "premium membership" kind of thing or somthing like that for years, to get more pics, more storage, pic hosting ect with nothing to show for it, other than him telling me there is plenty of server space, and allowing me the ability to upload files to be hosted on 6gc for the stickys.
It's frustrating for all of us, and it's a shame, because we have a great community of people here, that he created the forum for. It is his vision that brings us all together.
No one wants to see this forum wither and die, and as long as the site is hosted and functioning, I don't see that happening , but we as a community deserve to know IF the site will exist in the future at least.
/rant. Lol

I have been riding my mongoose xr200. Spring, Summer and Fall usually 15-20 miles every day. Here in my gated community we have 26+ miles of paved trails in the forest and while I am a lazy shmuch it was a perfect substitute for when I quit playing video games. After riding 7 days a week I lost 16.5 lbs, gained muscle tone, a tan and overall I actually enjoy riding now. Its starting.... that is kinda iffy. I am taking my 3 month break right now because it gets dark early but will resume in march. I will be riding my bike to work. My new office will have showers there so I will save a ton on paying for gas like I am right now with my 50 mile round trip commute.

According to Coomers Twitter update "coomer is making @pedalroom faster! Playing sysadmin can be fun at times!".
He is of course talking about his new bicycle website http://www.pedalroom.com/.

I don't mind the guy having other projects, but I just wish he would jump on here and fess up that he's long lost interest in the site, instead of giving us some BS excuse about how busy he is.

This site is 1 missed hosting payment away from being gone forever, and as the years go by, thats getting closer and closer to becoming a reality.

Just contacted him on pedalroom, voicing my concern. Hopefully he gets back to us in one way or another. I'd hate to see this site fade away. I have huge future plans for my car and desperately need you guys for help in the coming years.

agreed, art.
for example, i posted back in october, in the mod forum, about rusty helping reworking the stickys.
not a single word from chris.
meanwhile, just YESTERDAY, he blogged on pedalroom about working on the site to make it faster.
frown.gif
it's a shame to let the future of this site just kinda fall by the wayside.
we've got some great people working on things for the celica that were never available back in the day, and guys that have been around since the beginning helping out people when noone else knew how.
guys like tweak, who've been around since the beginning, and guys like vincent, the guys at rtp, wolfie, ect who are taking over for and going beyond what guys like doggy ect did for us as a community. just to name a few.

i've known we've been driving blind for a long time now, and i've been communicating via PM with lots of diffrent members old and new about various ideas, suggestions, requests ect for the site, which unfortunately my reply 99.9% of the time ends up being "sorry, thats the kind of thing only chris can take care of" and its sad that there is nothing i can do about it.
as the guy who ends up looking and feeling like the bad guy because of my "position" on this site, it sucks to know at the end of the day, it really dont make a diffrence at all, because the guy i am supossed to be helping out really dont give a good sh*t about the site anymore.

its really just getting old at this point.
