faulty knock sensor?

I'm hoping its something simple like that^ but thats expensive lol

well im off to Canada to spend new years in Montreal,
Progress shall continue once i return biggrin.gif
ok so after a bit of research i think that either the knock light is coming on because:

-faulty sensor
-terrible cooling due to TMIC not receiving cool air from anywhere
-issues with coolant temp sensors etc.

i have a new fuel filter and new plugs (bosch platinums, <came with motor.. im going to replace them with NGK's soon)

I am not throwing any codes though..
I think number 2 can be a very good issue.
Also run the GTE (with W2A intercooler thou) with the GT/ST hood. But I can feel the differences with the GT4 hood+bumper installed. Everything is a lot cooler then previously. And that is with a better TMIC then your A-A IC.

Cant you took of the hood for a few test runs, or is the weather really bad @ your place?

JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!
i can take the hood off no prob, maybe ill try that tomorrow morning
if your still on the top mount, then chances are you boosted, then you knocked, then you got put into safe mode. the car normally stays in safe mode after a knock for a few minutes well after the knock happened.

if i were you, i wouldnt boost at all until you get a fmic installed. the top mount is VERY HORRIBLE. try to put your hand on it after a drive...it gets so hot that you'll burn yourself. it provides almost no cooling to the turbo, and is even a bad design for the stock st185.

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
The exact symptomes are as follows:

Start the car and she will run under safe mode for about 5-10 minutes. Usually until the engine temp (stock gauge, aftermarket one not hooked up yet) reaches a certain point.

Then she will leave safe mode and run completly fine without going back into safe mode.

The car hasn't entered safe mode while driving at all.. only at first when i start her up.. (she also hasnt started outside of safe mode)

So its either due to a time thing, or a temp thing im thinking?

maybe tomorrow i will run it until its out of safe mode then shut it off and start it again and see if its back in safe, and if its not then i can possibly assume its a temp thing?

Or.... maybe it knocks right at start-up everytime?

any ideas Art?

this is totally normal. the ecu is programed to keep the boost low, because you could damage a motor by boosting it when its still cold. it happens more often in cold weather. so thats nothing to worry about.

the one thing i think i should have pointed out in the tvsv how to, is that there are other conditions besides just knock that can make the red led stay on. really cold outside temps, or cel codes, or not having the car up to temp, can cause the light to stay on.

Nice job man. Enjoy it

I will return one day.
Congrats dude, now for some engine bay pics smile.gif

JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!
Ok well i made the two hour drive to school with no issues at all!!!!
It made me pretty excited to have the car run safely and reliably without any incidents. I picked up one of my friends at TF Green airport outside of providence RI, and while i waited for him i managed to put some of the interior back together smile.gif so i guess thats the current progress.

I also managed to swing by and see Dustin (Batman722) and show him the swap biggrin.gif

This car is going to be fun tongue.gif
Ok well i drove back home from college for the weekend to get some more work done!

Here are the toys that were waiting on my door step!!!

I want to polish the aluminum peices, is the valve cover the only aluminum peice I can polish? (if i am even correct assuming is aluminum...)

Thanks smile.gif that was my only major concern about the swap.. but it worked out fine biggrin.gif
awsome job man, next step imo would be to clean up that engine bay

Now SR powered
so remind me again why this intake is called the ART intake? Great work on the car though!

Its a DCW custom product, and it fits two 52mm gauges which i believe are the same as 2" inch gauges. I'm not sure how easy the availability would be on this, I had to make a special request to get one. biggrin.gif
>>UPDATE>>

I finished installing all three DCW gauge pods as well as all 6 pro-sport gauges (only one not connected to a sender is the oil pressure)

I also spent the better part of the day putting the head unit in and all the interior panels below the dash.
Dustin (batman722) can tell you how empty it was wink.gif

here are the pics!!!!!! woot.gif

It actually feels like a car now with the interior back in.. oh god it was depressing with no CC, head unit, glove box, etc etc.. but now its all back together biggrin.gif

the interior looks awesome!

looks like the intake was a perfect fit too.

if you want to clean up the engine bay, paint the exhaust heat shield and the valve cover, with some high temp paint. if you can, look into powder coating them.

Thanks smile.gif

Yea the intake is great! Nice work on the welds biggrin.gif

Can i polish the valve cover? I'd love for it to be all bling and shiny.

I think once i get rid of the top mount inter heater I think it will clean the look up a bit. that and if i can organize the wiring and lines etc.. just too much clutter right now.. I'm gonna remove the AC once i get the correct belt and parts.
VERY nice! i love the interior pics.

Visit My Automotive & Tech Blog.
yes, you can polish it. it takes a long time to do a good job tho. you could have it chromed.

Man, pods and Gauge look awesome!! you can sand the shifter trim and paint it silver or what ever color you want to match your interior btw wink.gif
