Conversion: 100 to 114 - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #87278 42 posts Started by smkr3w
Alright, so my passenger side rear hub seems to be 'bent' or at least it's not centered correctly. And I was looking to replace them with my friends assistance but have an itch to address.

In the discussion of this thread HERE. It was said that the xv10 Camry's rear hub/bearing assembly can bolt onto the Celica's rear; which would mean the rotors would have to be re-drilled to 5x114 to mate with the new hub. Correct?

On eBay:
94-99 Celica Rear Hub/Bearing Assembly- $230
91-96 Camry Rear Hub/Bearing Assembly- $66

I figured since the price difference is relatively large. Than I should go the conversion route smile.gif
Then I wondered if I can buy rotors for a xv10 Camry, would they fit the stock brake caliper?

Upon searching I found this info (unconfirmed):
--------------------------------- 94-99 Celica -------- 91-96 Camry -----
Outside Diameter:-------------- 269mm ----------------- 269mm ---------
-------------Height:------------ 64.6mm ---------------- 64.9mm --------
---------Nom Thick:------------ 8.9mm ----------------- 10mm ----------
----------Min Thick:------------- 8mm --------------------- 9mm -----------
-------Bolt Pattern:------------ 5x100 ------------------- 5x114 ----------

So with such a small difference in Thickness, while still having the same overall Diameter, Would it be possible to utilize the Camry's rear rotor as well?

Can anyone weigh in here?? I really need to fix my rear, because sounding like a wooden rollercoaster is getting old tongue.gif

Personally I would drill the Celica rotors. Machine shop shouldn't charge you much for it. I would do so mainly because the caliper would have to "bite" further in for the pads to grab onto the rotor.

If it's not a concern however then the camry rotors would be the best, and next up would be a front hub conversion with Rav4 hubs and camry rotors I believe.

A thing to check is if the rear Camry rotors have the e-brake shoes in the same location as the Celica.

Nice! The fronts will come later.. I just need to fix the rears ASAP. So I figured if its cheaper to convert, why not kill two birds with one stone biggrin.gif

5x114 would be awesome for wheel fitment options

Sorry but the argument syaoran makes is worthless...youd go with celica rotors cause the caliper would have to bite?

The rotor thickness difference is basically given up in pad wear...
Thats not the issue

The rotor hat spacing and offset are what make the rotor usable or unusable..
Thanks. Either way this is why I'm posting.. so I can know, before I spend money on something I can't use.

Still, redrill and camry hubs is cheaper than replacing with celica ones.
Plus 5x114 wheel options!

hold up! Are we forgetting that if you change your bolt pattern then your disk wont fit as well?

Not sure I understand? You mean the brake discs? Those will be taken to a machine shop to re-drilled to fit 5x114. We're talking rears here..

In the thread I linked above its been discussed that the front can be swapped with Rav4 hub and Camry discs for direct bolt. but that is for later, I'm focusing on the rears for the time being.

I'm assuming you have universal wheels right? 5x100/5x114.3

I was about to do it on mine but I decided it was easier and simpler to just press out and in a new bearing. Cost me $20 to have it done by my mechanic. Had to cut off a piece that got stuck to the hub thanks to the heat produced by the grinding bearings. Pressed the hub back in and impacted a new axle nut to the back. All is good.

Got a Rear Camry Rotor today, so I can find out for myself whether or not I can make the rear hub conversion bolt on instead of needing some machining.

Main reason for this is because I checked with a local machine shop, and they want $35 PER ROTOR to re-drill and bore from 5x100 / 54.1 to 5x114 / 60.1 to fit the Camry hub. So that'd be $70 for just re-drilling my old rotors, the Camry rotor that I just received only cost me $20 shipped..

I will be ordering the rear hubs soon regardless of the outcome.. It'll all be worth it for wheel selection biggrin.gif

Did this go ahead? And if so did your celica handbrake setup work with the camry disc?

I'm looking at doing the same thing so I can swap my rear brakes to camry and front brakes over to the 2008 highlander front brakes for a big cheap upgrade.

Cheers

This was my biggest concern, and the reason why I only bought one rotor to test.
anyway.......
>>SUCCESS!>>

Stock CELICA rear hub/bearing assy. top
Replacement CAMRY rear hub/bearing assy. bottom

..And CAMRY rear ROTOR, fits like a glove!

So bottom line-
>>>>A BOLT ON REAR 5x114 CAMRY CONVERSION IS POSSIBLE>>>> smile.gif smile.gif

So why do this conversion?
-Wheel Options!
-Cheaper than Celica Replacement Parts

I'm so tired of searching for good fitment wheels for our 5x100 pattern. So can someone and if possible smkrew. Can you give a full detail on what you need to buy? Like a shopping list preferably?

From what I read is:

Front:
sxa11 rav4 front hub X2
xv10 camry front rotor X2

Rear:
xv10 camry rear rotor X2
xv10 camry rear hub X2

^^^I'm guessing it'll be the same generation Camry as for the fronts right? Also were there any modifications or were these all bolt on? Besides the need to press the front. from dan0004's post he listed "wheel bearing kit". I'm wandering if he meant you have to buy new bearings in order for the rav4 hub to fit or is he just recommending to change the bearing while you're there already? Meaning the Celica and RAV4 wheel bearing are interchangeable? Please shine more detailed and straight forward information. Sorry for asking so much but I just want a single post that has everything together instead of scrolling down and having someone say it won't work then it works then yadda yadda. Confusion. Lol.

Aight. Thanks! Now that I know what parts to get. I got a estimated price for parts. Going to be already 500-600. Will be adding this to my to do list.

STICKY THIS BTW ADMIN!

I got one last question. Hows the center bores? Are they going to be changed along with the conversion also? I looked up and the camry centerbores are 60.1 and the rav4 are 67.1?

At least that's according to this chart: http://lugpattern.net/Toyota_Bolt_Patterns2.htm

Just wondering, why can't we just use the Camry front hubs?
Both the Camry and Celica use the same outer CV joints - so should fit.
Hubs are Similar too.

Honestly. I wouldn't doubt it if it does. Its just that no one has tried/tested it yet.

That's exactly what I'm doing. Lol. Trying to collect at least around 2k for the whole conversions plus wheels and tires.
