Supra Sideskirts :) - 6G Celicas Forums

So I got the sides the other day, but it was raining frown.gif....and most of this morning. but as soon as it stopped.... I started biggrin.gif

So its a very long process of getting them to fit frown.gif but I really like the look:). And thanks to AJ I had a general idea of what to start with (he was very helpful) but put my own spin on alot of it, which i thought was easier.
Any how, I got one almost "done" still have a ton! of work to do, to mold it all flush, but thats alot easier than holding SS up and marking out, and cutting, and holding, and trying to rivit it, all by my self lol.

Heres some pics smile.gif

Walk out smile.gif

Cut for the "vent" (vent doesnt actually do anything, i covered it in the back)

A few different angles when i cut enough and had it fall into place well enough to rivit it in

Cut the rear off, extending, ran out of resin so I had to stop

Started laying out the mat, getting it all ready (mainly in my head tongue.gif)

Started to spread the resin, but I ran out frown.gif

Rest of the pics are mainly how it looks now, keep in mind, I ran out of resin, I will be finishing it tomorrow along with the other side smile.gif

Tell me what you think smile.gif I know its not everyones style tongue.gif .. And if anyone has questions ask smile.gif its not as hard as it may look... if you have some patience smile.gif.. the only "body work" experience I have is putting on my invader kit smile.gif

you cut ur rear quarter panel....

yeah, i mean its going to look good, but cutting the car?

Learned a lot in 10 years...I hardly log in anymore, last loginToday Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOLIf you PM me and I dont respond, dont fret or cry. Im alive, better post your questions in the thread below, maybe I log back in2grfe Swapped...Why I chose the 2GR, before you ask read here...A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within.@llamaraxing in Instagram is the best way to find me. I hardly log here anymore.
you cut into the Unibody frame car..... I personally dont like it. And i would never of cut into my car. But to each is on. Keep up the good progress bro.
lol yeah there was no other way to do it, other than cutting through. But I primed everything I cut (didnt cut any "frame pieces" from like too far down)
I honestly never plan to sell this car, so cutting it wasnt a big issue smile.gif and I could fix it if i ever needed too, wouldnt be too hard, kept the piece i cut out, and also tried very hard to cut out as minimal as possible smile.gif

it will most likely be all done tomorrow night, even the bondo smile.gif so ill have more pics, and you'll be able to see my "vision" more clearly smile.gif and hope it looks as good as I envision tongue.gif
then paint next wknd, and CSP Meet the next biggrin.gif

Just a quick question, it rains and I'm sure you plan on driving in the rain, that scoop is gonna suck water into that hole you cut, did u at least make a drainage hole for any water that does build up in there? cuz i'm sure ounce water gets in there if it sits it'll rot that quarter panel away from the inside?
I LOVE IT! if i felt like being a copy cat I'd do the exact same thing because that is
SEXYYYYYYYYYYY! Cars that people make completly the own are the best. . i mean how
many celicas are there with O.E.M? a ton..

how many have 1 of a kind supra side skirts? probably not many if not just you (:

our cars are unibody, but that doesn't mean the sheet metal on the outside is part of the frame.
i definitely agree with what RavenAegis45 said, water will just sit inside of it as well and that won't make it so great. Did you really have to cut that piece for the SS cause most vents don't require you to cut into the body and I don't think that the cut is made in supra's either. I hope that hole doesn't come back and haunt you...
But anyway I can't wait to see how it comes out, it will be very unique!
I put a thin piece of fiberglass mat on the back side of the mesh, and painted it black. For the illusion of depth, and to keep the water out smile.gif lol i thought about the water as well.
And the hole had to be cut, the "vent" has to go in at least 2 inches, for the skirt to be even close to flush. And thats only after cutting the skirt with a dremel...well... all over the place lol. I had to cut out a bunch of the skirt, which was a little scary tongue.gif (more so than the cutting of the sheet metal)
I dont know if you would have to cut in on a supra, as the body lines are alot! more different than you would think, the skirts dont go along with the body of a celi, but they will smile.gif when im done with them

right! thats what i was going for. I mean I like the OEM look, and how people do the GT-Four front end conversion...but i didnt want to be like everyyyyone else lol.
As far as i know this has only been done one other time, by AJ (who sold his car), but i stayed in contact with him, so he was able to help quite a bit, just from a few pics he had... but pics are not, a 100% reference, as all kits are made a little different, and we did it a little differently.
But go ahead and be a copycat biggrin.gif lol idc, AJ really wanted for someone to follow in his foot steps when he "retired", and he has a alot! more great ideas ill be trying out in the near future.

Why go through all that pain when you can just buy it?
I only ever found one pair, and they were like 750...which i dont have so I just decided to go with these. and i dont really mind the work, i like doing it smile.gif

More pics from today, had a short working period so I got non of the bondo done, but both sides are fiberglassed in as much as they need smile.gif....and my CF hood came so i slapped that on there didnt have time to drill out for the hood pins, so they are just sitting there)

Got the other fender vents, will mold them in

Looks low already smile.gif

New Carbon Fiber Hood (not my fav design but the price made it my fav smile.gif )

back on topic, and without being a dick like the rest of these jackasses, why didnt you cut and strech the skirts so that they would reach the rear wheelwell?

Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)13.6@108MPH, 5SFTE Powered
lol thank you, and its just the "angles" i guess of the sides, There was no way to extend them to the point of getting them to the rear wheel well, i thought about it a abunch but it would of looked a bit funny, there may have been a way..but I couldnt envision it frown.gif

And the hood for 150 was why i picked it up, was far too good of a deal smile.gif and I know its not everyones taste lol, but at least give it enough time to be finished tongue.gif

yea, you could have cut them in the middle, or closer to the front section, and extend them there to make up the diffrence.
supershannon77 had the same hood on her car for a long time, i liked it.
props for the effort, theres only one way to really learn this stuff, and thats by doing it.
it gets easier every time after the first try.
good luck!

Looks good, keep p the work. Just a piece of advice lower your hood pins, they should be as close to the hood as you can get. thumbsup.gif
thanks smile.gif
and yeah the pins were not actually installed in those pics, I just drilled out the holes for them this morning, and it closes alot better. its still not a grreeaat fitting hood, but it was well worth it, and the design is starting to grow on me alot smile.gif

i love the idea
i would have tried to strech them tho like was previously stated
you could have cut them
taken a couple lengths of balsa or bass wood
over layed some thin pink sterofoam insulation stapled thet to the balsa or bass wood frame
then over that layed down fibre glass then a bit of bondo then another bit of fiberglass and bondo
then smoothed it out
Thats how several one off car makers do it
d biggrin.gif b
lol i woulda never thought of that, my resources and experience is veryy minimal lol. But i can see now how I coulda dine it, but woulda been alott of work for me, and its not like my ST is much of a race car lol, done need to cool the rear drums tongue.gif
Thanks alot for the love smile.gif helps this project go smile.gif

So I started the molding process today, was a bit hard with the angles and amount that needed to be done, and I ahve only ever molded the rear bumper...so I dont know if i do it the easiest way. any how heres some unfinished pics-

(I have a couple thin layers of it on there, the last layer which you see has not been sanded, so it obv. looks pretty bad, but it is coming along, I think tomorrow it will be done smile.gif
