That's great to hear. I was just wondering if I could attempt this in the future...but honestly, I don't even change my own oil (bad, I know frown.gif).

Yeah You could do it. I hardly ever change my own oil either cuz its just so cheap to have a shop do it...
The shops here all charge $29.99 to change your oil, where I can do it myself for about $16. I can change my oil two times for what the shops charge for it.

So the auto to manual wasn't too hard, eh? That's good to know. You'll have to let us know how you like having a manual!

Well, I originally wanted to but my brother said his friends that do it themselves say it's not worth it after needing to dispose of the oil, etc. I'm sure it's not hard to find a place to dispose it though, I could probably take it to any auto shop that does oil changes themselves.

One question about the manual swap, how exactly do you mount the clutch pedal? I assume there's some kind of space where it would usually mount, but that is left blank in automatic models. Also, how hard was it to install the shifter assembly? I assume again that there are mounting places where things screw in already existing in the car.

there should be indentation or markings for the clutch pedal assembly. shifter assembly is just 4 bolts and then you tie in the shifter cables to them.

well the shifter assembly is a straight pull out the auto and put in the manual. To swap the cables you have to get underneath the car, unbolt the heatshield (easy, 4 screws) above the cat and remove the old automatic shifter cable. Then put the manual shifter cables in and thats it. The only other thing that I haven't found out yet is exactly where the manual shifter cables are supposed to be routed through. I mean I don't know if they go over the rack n pinion or what. Its hard to explain without pics but yeah. The clutch pedal is really easy as well. The holes are already marked you just have to drill them. Use a 5/8" drill bit and drill three holes where they are marked. The bigger hole you have to find a drill bit big enough or use a small drill bit then use a saws-all and thats it everything should fit perfectly. If you look at my previous pictures you can see a picture of the firewall with the holes marked.

bought a 3 ton jack and jack stands at home depot for less than $100
Okay, that's a doable addition to the rest of the costs. So I guess it is entirely doable at home then, huh? Enticing.

WHo knows if when doing the swap u use the fuse box (next to the battery) from the BEAMS or use the one thats already in the car?
I used the stock fuse box because I did not get one with my engine. Just take a look and see if the fuses are all the same. Im guessing thats SRS will probably be the only one thats might be different. However I have a 94gt and yours is a 99. It could be a little different. But I would start by identifing each fuse. Wire colors will likely all be the same.

Some mods have to be done to the harness though right? I was looking on other posts But I still Don't understand exactly what I have to change...

I looked for that TRD shifter and my dealership doesn't have it in stock they said its discontinued and they sold out. do you have a part number for it cuz I lost the part number?????

Yeah basically the 5s is ready to come out I just don't have a hoist so I want to work on the harness for now but I don't know where to start. I was trying to understand the post on your thread but I don't really get it. Here are the USDM plugs inside of my car where the harness for the BEAMS plugs into after the ECU. On the gray plug (1st gray plug in the pictures and 1st gray plug from bottom to top when you look inside the car) everything matches except one wire The white plug is missing wires. and the second gray one at the top is just a mess. I'll post pics now and edit it to clean it up later when I get a chance so you know which one is which. but just in case you already know the difference I'll post the pics now...

ON THIS ONE EVERY WIRE MATCHES WITH THE JDM PLUG EXCEPT THAT THE JDM DOESNT HAVE THE BLACK AND BLUE WIRES THAT YOU SEE SEPARATED ON THE UPPER LEFT OF THE PICTURE


ON THIS ONE (WHITE), THE WIRES ON THE WHITE PLUG THAT ARE SORT OF SEPARATED TO THE LEFT MATCH WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT ITS MISSING A BLUE WIRE. THE BUNCH OF WIRES SEPARATED TO THE RIGHT ON THE WHITE PLUG ARE EXTRA COMPARED TO THE JDM WHITE PLUG


THIS ONE IS INSANE MOST OF THE WIRES DON'T MATCH

the wires may not match, beams may have different colors

this is what i have and others have done

extend the maf wires, the speed sensor wires and the vacuum sensor wires. (at least what i did)

on EA1

bridge together pins 4 and 17
bridge together pins 2 and 12

move white plug (pin #18) to dark grey plug into (pin # 17)

For Cruise dark grey interior harness (pin #10) tap into blue/white stripe wire from the ECU (AFaIK this is not working, as beams did not have cruise, Batman722 is working on this and i will probably not use it)

For SRS run a wire from EA1 through the engine harness (or body) to the light grey interior plug (pin #5)

this is all the wiring to be done...

all the wiring im doing is rerouting and extending the harness.

Here are pics of the differences in the fuse box...

The Top one is from the BEAMS harness the bottom is from the GT USDM. The fuse differences are obvious but on the gray plug (bottom left i believe this is the EA1 everyone talks about) there is an extra wire on the BEAMS one that the USDM doesn't have. anyone know what thats for? Everything else matches

nope the ST183 models got called that but the ST203 didn't. They had a '4WS' sticker on the back window, where the "Superstrut Suspension" usually is.

Ok i believe that engine might be from a curren possible, some were equipped with 4ws, but you dont have that, i believe that extra wire is the wire that goes to the injectors maybe, that one that you have to bridge, or an extra ground, but im leaning towards the first one. what color is the wire. black with red?


the pplace in the beams that says trac yours is srs, thats the blue wire missing for the airbags.
