>Hey anyone know what I can do to this thing while. Its out? Maybe to add more power or maintenance?

timing belt, tensioner, pully, water pump, thermostat, spark plugs, 02 sensor, check all the wiring to make sure there are no broken wires on any connectors, get flywheel resurfaced, get a clutch, ect...

my st205 swapandour Beams swap
wow this is going to add up...

Timing belt (HKS) probably about $200
Tensioner: ?
Water pump: probably another $150
Thermostat: $20

ok I'm too lazy to do the rest I'll just compile prices when I get the actual prices and part numbers. Guess what I got today though? here's a clue 81130-20050, 81170-20050... I really am getting too exited but this car is almost done!

I'm going to find all these maintenance parts and post part numbers and prices that I got. Maybe this will help the other two members doing the swap so we can compare prices...

>make sure all sensors are good, and inspect when it arrives, my vvti sensor was broken and ists going to be 260usd if i cant find it in the us

well I know corollas and celica GT from 2000 and up had VVTI maybe its the same sensor? All the vehicles now have vvti... What about that one that they sent you that was supposed to be good, why doesn't it fit?

I'm thinking of changing the timing belt, maybe the water pump, maybe cam gears... I don't know what else or how much that would cost...

well he reckons he got a 3sge blacktop sensor, and that it wont fit, so I can't reall. I still might be able to get a lower price njccmd, though you can also blame the strong NZ vs US dollar.

>the axles and the motor mounts work? all of them? what makes it work for the beams and not exactly for the 3sgte?

the beams uses an s54 tranny (GT) but it has LSD, whereas the st205 has an e153f.
Totally different trannys.

does that mean we can use the lsd from it on our reg GT s54 since they seem to be the same tranny?

Yeah u can most likely use the LSD from the Beams tranny and it will fit in the USDM s54 but that is not confirmed. What is confirmed is that you can drop in the LSD from an 02+ MR2 Spyder into the S54 and its a direct fit, "Urbandork" did it. I was going to do it but a new LSD is 1500 from toyota or if u can find a used mr2 tranny its about $900 average...

its what I got off of toyotadiy.com, Should be correct... If you want to try from local dealership since you already have your engine... if not, as soon as I get mine, I'll order them and test them out...I don't even know what year my engine is but I assume that all red top beams are the same
Man my engine was supposed to be here today i wonder where its at?
do u really need to blow 200 bucks on an hks timing belt??? im sure and oem one will work just the same?? prolly alot cheaper too

i hate snow, missing my celica

well I don't know but I bet the HKS timing belt is stronger, supposedly its made of kevlar whereas the OEM is probably just rubber...
Its here!!!!!!!!!!

I asked a mechanic to quote me on how much it would be to do the swap and he told me he didn't want to do it cuz it was too much work lol. How much more do you have to do compared to a straight swap with another 5sfe????? Anyone out there interested in doin a swap????
Congrats. If you where in MD I would offer to help. Good Luck and just be sure to have a lot of bolt containers and label them and your job will be much easier putting it back together.

congrats mang thumbsup.gif

dude, even with the stock airbox, i envy you, check all sensors, to be there, vvti, tps, vacuum, o2, and that they are not broken

I don't know anything about where those sensors are at...I know 02 is probably somewhere on the exhaust manifold...

as far as removing the old motor, and installing the new one, they are exactly the same.
figuring out how to get the beams harness thru the firewall, and doing the wiring are the only diffrences.
everything mounts up the same way, in the same locations, as far as the motors are concerned.

So the A/C lines are all in the same place and the power steering stuff too? The mechanic was more concerned about the vac lines or something like that, do those have to be replaced?

the gt ac lines bolted up on dustin and steffs car, as well as the power steering.
the only vac lines that go from motor to chassis are the brake booster, and the charcole canister.
your mechanic is being shyed away by the fact you wanna install a motor that he has never seen or prolly heard of.
most normal, everyday mechanics would say the same things.
i never, ever recommend having a normal mechanic do these kind of motor swaps, it almost always turns out bad in one way or another.

YEah the mechanic is my dad's friend, he's supposedly put a toyota engine in a ford truck and other crazy stuff but he just said he is too old to be doing swaps lol He told me I could do it and learn but it would take time. I have no experience in anything other than changing breaks and doing tune-ups.

I can't figure out how to install the clutch master cyl. though because there are no markings on the firewall and the sticky in this forum is missing the pictures. I think I'll start with the auto to Manual conversion first does that sound like a good idea?

Here's what I did today since I got a flat tire and couldn't make it to work...

The shifter has a bunch of connections that I don't know what they do...

Getting this out was a pain in the @!

This is the stereo amp.

and the ABS thingy

auto to manual swap!

got the break pedal done! this was a piece of cake! all you have to do is remove 1 bolt and a pin then install the new pedal, put the pin and bolt back in and thats it!

Installing the clutch will be super easy as well cuz everything is already marked! This is where the clutch master cyl goes.

and this is where the pedal assembly is bolted to as well, notice the gray screw already in place.
Pretty much done with manual conversion...
Wow, awesome. How experienced are you with cars, and how hard would you say it was to do? And we need pics of the finished product!

It was really easy, I thought it was going to be harder but its not. I still have some minor details to clean up so that it looks better (i need a rubber washer for the clutch master cyl.) and then I'll post pictures... I have no experience at all with major mechanical work! I totally did not know what I was doing but its pretty self explanatory once you get down to it! I don't have a lot of tools either just a 69 piece tool set from home depot, a drill (only for the holes in the firewall) and a jack and jackstands and that was it. So yeah anyone can do it. I'll post pics when i get a chance.
nice, a step closer now biggrin.gif

I can understand though, once you pull all the trim off all the loom etc. the manual tranny in yet? hope shes shifting nice.

the auto to manual conversion really is not that big a deal at all once you get in and working on it.
good to see everything moving along. smile.gif

Hey I was looking at the two different face gauges and the ones that I have to swap for the BEAMS conversion (Tach) fits in the GT face gauge perfectly but if you look at the circuit board there are some major differences. Does anyone know if all I have to do is swap the tach straight out and thats it or do I have to do anything else?

this is the BEAMS Face gauge:

this is the Celica GT face gauge:

the tach and fuel is supposed to be a straight swap. the wiring is easy, i just made it look complicate lol. but is really not.

you need to get a engine crane and voila.
