Hopefully it comes here... and hopefully they don't goof on the engine.

Very good looking car, I'd rock it. A bit too GTR though but meh it looks good. The seats really ain't my taste but overall I say, finally a sports car on Yoto's behalf after so long.

I'll buy it if the price is right.

=(
i sure hope they don't put a solid rear axle in it similar to what they did in the ford mustang. Additionally if they price the car north of 25k I would probably buy a used 370z.

Play your cards right Toyota!
Is it just me or we are looking at new Celica? Subaru engine inside is correct and release 2011 as well... Ii just can not believe Toyota would make two sports cars at the same year!

No more replicas... This is evolution... This isSS-four:)________[Featured Celica of 6gc.net @ 2010]_________
You might be right,

god after staring at those pics for a good 10mins, it has grown on me alot. I really like it now, I just wish they fix up the front a bit. Looks like something out of Nissan rather then Toyo.

wow, toyota has come a long way. that design is 10 years ahead, has nice wheels, huge brakes, rwd, 6-speed, and it's lightweight.. i think i've got a new car to look forward to.

I like the exterior of it, but the interior makes me want to vomit. Luckily it's still a "concept" and if they do go through with this I hope they bring the interior down a lot. Maybe a nice set of Recaros or something.

Now I don't know spit about subies, but would you be able to mate the STi motor to the rwd tranny being used in this car?

I like the exterior...a little unusual, but it looks like car design is headed in this direction, so Toyota might as well be the first to do it. The interior, while new and innovative, looks like a ricer's wet dream.

I HOPE HOPE HOPE that this will be similar to an MX-5 in terms of handling. The two small seats in the rear will be a detriment...but if it can be made as tossible, as light, and as balanced...I would definitely get this car.

I'd rock it. I can probably already tell you where in the price range it's going to sit - right around 30k. It'd be a direct competitor to the 370Z and the Hyundai Genesis.

Am I the only one who thinks the front kind of looks like a stretched out RX8?/S2000 mix?
boo!! it looks way to futuristic. Looks like that car is made for the year 2020. Ya interior is too much. The car looks to sharp, they need to smooth out the curves of the car.

back in 1992 when the Supra MK IV was shwon to the public, toyota got reactions like that, you are completely right about the car looking futuristic, but wasn't toyota known for starting trends when comes to car styling ? I hope this starts another era of toyota sport cars.

my thoughts exactly.

I say make it a targa top or convertible hardtop and i'll take it today.

Love it! Especially the 'turbine' wheels.
I say in 8 years, it will look classic. Then most of us might consider buying it when the price drops a lot, like our 6gens have.

I like it in green (I photochopped it)

san0.:GT-SS2:.
I personally just love that Toyota is actually building its first sporty FR compact since the 80's (no... the Supra's not a compact). Also, I think it would be a mistake if Toyota marketed this as competition for the Genesis and 370Z. C'mon... it's gonna have somewhere around 150-180 hp tops out of the Subbie 2.0 boxer and I have a hard time imagining this thing any less than 2400 pounds... and who knows if America will even get that same engine (or the actual car even...). We might get the SOHC 2.5 thrown in there. If Toyota were serious about competition... throw in the STI 2.5 DOHC turbo... then you're looking at eating alive the 370Z and Genesis... but if that were the case... it's gonna be near 30K.

As far as styling goes... I really like the profile of the car. The rear is OK... not lovin' the lower half of that rear bumper... and I'm not a huge fan of the headlights... but I think the body lines on the car looks great. It's just a concept though... albeit a production concept... but a concept nonetheless. The seats are probably not gonna look like that... the interior is probably gonna be a bit more simple than that... and I don't see it rollin out of the factory on carbon-fiber inlaid 19's...

But hey... it's more realistic than any "new supra"... and I'd get one for sure.

Too futuristic? I couldn't disagree more. It looks right on par with the current trend of imports. Interior is classic concept: extravagant & a tech overkill, but its a concept. Exterior looks fine for a production car.

I will also disagree on that horsepower expectation. Anything sub 200 will absolutely kill any hope of this car selling. It certainly looks the part of a 370z/Genesis coupe competitor - and this is an opportunity for Toyota to take that market. Even if they plopped in an old EJ20 it'd be 224hp. Although Hyundai is making great strides in quality and increasing its brand respectability, people are still going to think twice about plopping down 35k on a V6 Genesis coupe.

It's already in Gran Turismo:

But that's assuming they're gonna go turbo. Speculations so far... and considering Toyota is emphasizing on weight reduction... I don't see them going turbo. I would not be surprised to see it with the n/a 2.5 in the US and n/a 2.0 elsewhere.

Granted, it would have to be turbo. But I still say if it's less than 200hp (IMO 225 is the magic number) it won't sell. Toyota will want 25k for a sub 200hp car because it's a sporty Toyota - and nobody will buy it, and they'll say 'oh see nobody wants sports cars so we're not going to sell them'.

I can see this doing well if it has a starting price around 19k, and has 200hp low end model, and a turbo 2.5 with ~275 for 25k.

I think it'd be perfect if there was a 225 n/a model and 300hp turbo model, but we all know that's in fantasy land.

I agree entirely with Supersprynt.

I have no idea what that c-45 boxer engine is underneath the hood in that Gran Tourismo video.

What is this going to compete against?
Civic, Tibberon, Focus, Cobalt or 370Z, Genesis, Camaro, Mustang
My guess based on the physical size and price point mentioned in the OP is that it will be the Civic/Tibberon. That will basicly make it an 8th gen Celica.

It'll be nowhere near the 370Z/Genesis crowd unless you can squeeze close to 300 hp out of it. And I doubt that it will be intended for that.

*Tiburon

I think 225 for 25k sounds fantastic. But like I mentioned, it's more the handling I'm worried about...they have potential to make it a fantastic chassis with that FR setup, especially if they do something like an FMR.

I 100% agree with you. I am not sure about the price, but most certainly about the competition. Regardless though, I may have to cross out the Supra on my list for one of these in the near future.

I'm just glad Toyota is making this. And everything seems promising. They also mentioned its going to be around $21k USD which is pretty cheap. The looks have to grow on me but I think if they tweek it a bit more it'll look good.

Right now the Genesis is the only new car I would consider buying and this looks like a straight competitor with that, and with Toyota/Subaru behind it, I think it'll be alot better.

And there is no way they would only give it 200hp. Even the CIVIC SI has that much today. I think we'll get alot more than that.
Very interested. I was keeping a close eye on the TMS, but this just makes my day!
