My Daily Driver Turbo Build - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #68666 37 posts Started by boosted185
First things First. This is about a Honda Civic....Don't hate...yet!

Haha, alright guys, SOME of you already know about this, most of you don't. I figured I might as well post a thread about my Civic Turbo build. Now I know most of you will stop reading at this point. Please don't be that close-minded. A Turbo build is a Turbo build, reguardless of make. As of right now my engine is done at the machine shop (got the call this morning) and is ready to be picked up, as soon as I sell one of my testicles I will pay for it and get my motor back! tongue.gif The block consists of YCP .020" over pistons with Forged I-beam rods. ACL Race bearings, APR head studs, and perfect circle rings. The block was bored, honed, line honed, and decked to accomodate the new guts. I have the oh-so-common eBay t3/T04E 57 trim with a 63 A/R. 3" downpipe mated to a stock cat, then 3" catback from there. Factory head for right now. I did order a custom thickness head gasket from commetic that too them 4 week to make...quite irritating if you ask me. Precision 550cc LI injectors with a 93 Accord resistor box. I am running Water/Meth injection (Devils Own)...Most of the Honda community doesnt really run the water/meth so I'm going to see what I can do to make my build better! ACT Stage III copper ceramic 6 puck with a Fidanza 7.5lb flywheel. Um...I'm sure I'm forgetting some tid-bits of information, but those of you who have done turbo setups before, please feel free to ask questions. I have been working on cars for the past 13 years and this is not my frist Rodeo....QUESTIONS and COMMENTS are greatly appreciated! Those of you who have NOT done turbo setups and whatnot on N/A engines, just sit back and enjoy the ride, and HOPEFULLY someone will say something that you can take and apply to your own car!

I will have some pics as soon as my engine gets home from the machine shop!

Thanks. Brent will most likely be lending a hand where he can. What better way for him to learn then to get down and dirty and turn some wrenches!

Its a 1994 Ex Coupe. As for the engine its the mighty D16Z6 tongue.gif I wasnt going to bother with a B-series swap due to the cost of the engine, then properly building it to handle the amount of boost I wanna throw at her. I will safely be able to run 20+psi with the pistons and rods that I have in the block. These engines with the same setup as mine have been known to put down 400+whp numbers! Soooo I'm going to be realistic and set a goal for 380ish whp for mine. If I can attain that I will be thrilled.

honda daily FTW way cheaper to build way easier to get bigger numbers...it is sad, but true.
Awesome Cam - I'm surprised to be the first to say this - but this thread is [nearly] worthless without pics tongue.gif
seriously tho - wanna see the car and the machine work when you get the chance.
this'll be fun to follow a build that isn't a 3S/5S/7A/4A build. Cool biggrin.gif

Yes, it is sad, but very true. The heads on Hondas are some of the best flowing OE heads, this could be part of the equation!

I mentioned a few posts up that 380 whp is my goal, if I make within 10 of it I'll be satisfied.

www.tweakdperformance.comcontact@tweakdperformance.com
Would that be on pump gas? I think you can make a bit more than 380 with that set-up smile.gif

"God created turbo lag to give V8's a chance"
i find the 'car will scrape' portion of that statement to be humorous at best, but redundant...

no fat chicks.

lol good luck on the build man, i'll be stoked to see some numbers/ pics as well. smile.gif

Yeah, I agree, I think I could make a little more, but we'll see! What she makes, she makes. Its still a daily driver, it will just be a pretty quick daily driver tongue.gif smile.gif

Nice! One of my buddies has an EG hatch. He swapped a D16B into it. It's pretty quick- eats my GT up. Unfortunately....

www.tweakdperformance.comcontact@tweakdperformance.com
alright, so a quick update. As you can see, I didn't get the pics posted like I had hoped. Brent's camera died. My ECU went to columbus today to get chipped and a base tune put on it. We gotta roll Brent's Celica out of the garage, get mine IN the garage and start the heart transplant. Both the Tangerine and my Civic should be done sometime this week...well...they BETTER be done this week, we have a show next weekend to attend! haha. I'll post pics as soon as I can.

www.tweakdperformance.comcontact@tweakdperformance.com
Alright, here are some pics of the build and install. I didnt really take as many as I had hoped, but you'll get the gist!

Old Engine Out.

New Engine.
Devcon in block for a block guard and .020 YCP Pistons

Oil Sandwich adapter with Oil PSI switch

Head on the block with new Honda Oil and Water pumps

Precision 580cc Low Imp. Injectors

Fidanza 7.5 lb Flywheel

ACT Stage III Copper Ceramic 6 Puck

Quick mock-up of Turbo/manifold/wastegate

FMIC setup

Gauges (I need to get a pic of them lit up)

More to come. Once its tune and I can get it out of the garage, I'll get some better pics with the bumper on and everything!

That engine is clean!
Also that IC piping is very very nicely routed - killer job bro!
