>Looking good. Let me know how you connect your W2A intercooler to the 2nd gen 3S throttle body and where you mount your cobra heat exchanger. I've got the same setup but haven't had time to install it.

For connecting the Stock Intercooler to the GEN2 throttle body you can buy an ATS throttle Body Inlet, or make your own. I believe the stock flange is Aluminum, so cut off the existing bolt flange and have a 1" long 2.5" diameter aluminum pipe welded on. If you don't plan on making your own, they can be purchased here
http://www.atsracing.net/ats_racing_throttle_body_inlet.htm

For reference this is the ATS throttle body inlet next to the Stock GEN2 throttle body inlet. The stock GEN2 throttle body inlet cannot be used in its stock form because of the "funnel shaped" inlet.

The reason you cannot use the stock GEN2 throttle body inlet is because it needs to be cut down to an 1" in cylinder length, and you wont be able to get a good seal with the taper it has (that is why the people who are making there own are welding on a section of pipe). You will also need to trim your reducer coupler on BOTH ends (keeping the transition in tact) to make it fit in between the throttle body and the intercooler. Here is a picture showing how much of the ATS throttle body inlet needs to be cut.

Picture and details done by Califcarm over on mr2oc.com

Now buy yourself a 3" to 2.5" reducer coupler, trim it to fit as stated above, and you are good to go.

Easy enough. I've got an RC Engineering enlarged throttle body and aluminum inlet so I should be good to go then. Just need the reducer. I thought the turbo outlet to intercooler inlet needed changed as well though.

Project ST204.5 99.88946% complete...
well it does. The GEN3 and the GEN2 have the turbo in 2 different locations. The GEN3 puts the turbo closer to the transmission. You need to cut the "stub/pipe" coming off the intercooler that heads towards the turbo. Cut it about 3/4 on inch away from where it comes out of the Intercooler because this is still very straight and wont give you any trouble when rotating the second half/part. Now that you have your turbo inlet side in 2 piece rotate the piece you cut off until it lines up with the turbo, and re weld.

Sorry for the delay in posting, I've been busy every weekend. Today I decided it was time for Dr Tweak to do a little work on his own car smile.gif

First thing, I had to get organized. The interior of the car had a lot of pieces installed by Mouse but there was still a lot to do. There were all kind of parts packed into the car and it was a mess. I cleaned everything out and organized all of the parts. Found a lot of things that I am going to need smile.gif Then I vacuumed the whole car out real good.

I figured out why the seats had been removed, by the way. While vacuuming the car I kept saying to myself, "Wow, this carpet is in REALLY good shape!" I couldn't figure out why it looked so new, until I realized.... oh. It is brand new!

Then it was time to turn some attention to the exterior, along with getting some of the many parts out of the way. I installed the side skirts, the fender well covers, tightened up all of the suspension parts that were loose, and installed the rest of the lug nuts. It's starting to actually look like a car now smile.gif

I need to figure out how to fix this.

Next I went to finish the timing belt install and replacement of the seals and gaskets. As I gathered and looked the parts over however, I realized how very dirty everything was. I'm very particular about everything being clean so, I just had to do something about this. Here's the before pic of the valve cover.

And about an hour later.

The water pump outlet.

I'm working on the intake manifold now, should have the pics for you tomorrow if all goes well. I'm helping Prodigy with his E153 install but I'm going to try to get some time to work on my car too, if so I'd like to get the engine all put together, ideally including the manifolds, turbo, and maybe even the transmission bolted on. Stay tuned.

You need to replace the whole window/vinyl that goes right behind the outer vinyl...At least that's what I had to do kindasad.gif

Looks like you guys are making some progress, looks good!

ok, did you sandblast, or metal brush or what? whats your secret.

Learned a lot in 10 years...I hardly log in anymore, last loginToday Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOLIf you PM me and I dont respond, dont fret or cry. Im alive, better post your questions in the thread below, maybe I log back in2grfe Swapped...Why I chose the 2GR, before you ask read here...A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within.@llamaraxing in Instagram is the best way to find me. I hardly log here anymore.
My secret! Well, wouldn't you like to know! LOL j/k. I used a wire-brush wheel mounted to a grinder smile.gif

So today I got a little more work done. First I completed the timing belt install, and replaced the valve cover and gasket.

Something else I found, the injectors were individually bagged and had new o-rings on them. I suspect that they have been rebuilt.

Then installed the TVIS and intake manifold...

And then, the exhaust manifold, turbo, water and oil inlet/outlet for the turbo, downpipe, etc...

Why are you using that piece of junk manifold?

Funny story, actually. (I was waiting for you to post something about that manifold).

As you very well know I personally can't stand "SSAutocrap" products. However, when I was putting the parts list together for Mouse I noticed that we were missing the factory downpipe. I was on ebay and noticed the ssautocrap downpipes for $35. I was like, man, I HATE to do this because I really don't care for ssautocrap, but $35? I can't even buy the parts to build a downpipe with for $35! So I bought it.

A few days later a box comes in the mail and I'm like, "oh, this must be the downpipe". I pick it up and I'm thinking, why is this so heavy? I open it up and they sent me not the downpipe, but their manifold. I thought about it for a few minutes and then I was like, you know, I can ship this back at my cost and wait around for a refund and THEN go and buy another downpipe. But for $35? I might as well just keep it and order a new downpipe. So that's what I did. smile.gif Got the downpipe in and then I was thinking.... what am I going to do with this manifold? I could sell it or something but... might as well put it on I guess biggrin.gif

So, yeah.

Manny, I'm personally a huge fan of brushed finish (everything in my house is brushed stainless steel) so I'm going to leave it, in fact if I feel like matching everything I would probably brush the manifold and downpipe biggrin.gif Though if I end up putting my anodizing line together... who knows what will happen then biggrin.gif

There is really nothing wrong with those downpipes. I've had one for a very long time without problems.
You just have to grind the flange down so that the wg doesn't hit it, use the support bracket, and make sure the flex section in your exhaust is placed directly at the pivot point between the engine and the firewall. If you do that, you should have no problems with it.

I've had a similar experience.

i have nothing bad to say about the SSautochrome manifolds. i know the honds community has problems with them but i have one on my Supra and its been awesome! i did cut the T4 flange off and the wastegate flange and welded on a better T4 flange and teh Tial 44MM V-band flange. but other than that its been running perfect for me.

Wait until you guys see how I'm setting up the intercooler. It's going to blow your mind. biggrin.gif

Say you did want to polish that valve cover to a mirror shine, what would you use tweak? My valve cover could be shinier.
Progressively higher and higher grits of sandpaper, followed by aluminum metal polish and a lot of elbow grease smile.gif

That's how we did this:

-Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaireClick here to see my swapsdrtweak@phoenixtuning.com
I was thinking of polishing up my valve cover, instead of painting it, and possibly the heat shield. I gave them a scrub in the fall and they did look better, but just not what I want.

Can the valve cover be chrome plated or is it better (more durable?) to polish it up?
Chrome plating the valve cover would probably make it more durable and easier to clean, since chrome is harder than aluminum.

The heat shield is mild steel I think, so you'll want to chrome plate that rather than try polishing it. Though painting it normally does work pretty well.

I feel enlightened. I guess I should start phoning around to see what the bill would be for chrome plating. Thanks tweak!
If your going to take the time to polish something up like that, you really need to shoot it with a few coats of clear coat after you are done. If you don't, all of your hard work with go to waste after a short while.

Little bit of an interim update.

Wiring up the 3SGTE...

I've been coy about how I'm going to set up my intercooler. Although it's not finished, I decided to go ahead and get these pics out there. This is not how it's going to look complete, however. After taking a few careful measurements I realized that this setup isn't going to clear my hood because of the tubular manifold. So, I've pulled the stock manifold AND the turbine housing and sent them off to Jet-hot. When they come back, I'll put it back together and redo the intercooler so that it sits lower and at least has a better shot of clearing the hood. But at least you guys can check out how I decided to make the connections from turbo to intercooler to throttle body biggrin.gif

First a pic of me showing off my big snap ring pliers biggrin.gif

So enjoy the pics, and then forget what you saw because it'll look a little different soon LOL

Alright fellas, check it out!

-12 AN fittings welded to the bottom of the intercooler:

-12 AN fittings biggrin.gif

Finally got all of the welding done for the intercooler. Next up the engine is going into the car and once all that stuff is out of the way I'll be detailing the install of the intercooler lines and water pump smile.gif Due to the lack of time that I have (made painfully apparent by the lack of updates), I've decided to have the boys at SCC do the physical engine install since the majority of the custom work is out of the way. That's going down this week, so we should be seeing some faster progress smile.gif
