OT,ok ill babel,wtf is up with 6gc owners not wanting to join 6gc.net,like tonight for example,there was two,mind u TWO 6gcs at my local grocery store,(this is a big event i like never see 6gcs) a red vert and a red hatch,both had after market rims,and the vert guy was getting into his car so i walked over and asked him if he liked his celica and want kinda engine it had.All he said was"get outta here i dont need to talk to you" so im like "ok" and walk away,then the hatch girl walked out and i asked her the same and she said"ya i love it and idk the engine",so then i said "do u want to join a forum online only about ur kind of car" and she said"no i don't wanna join ur stupid club".UHHHH people piss me off lol...

That random story was out of the blue, FO RLZ. Not everyone wants to join forums, i know plenty of my friends who tune their vehicles and are not part of a forum. Its a persons choice.

I'm not... but I was born there... and schooled in Escrima. Anyway... the pinoys I knew always tended to think of "flip" as a derogatory term... kinda like jap or gook...

not me i think being called flip is all G. but then the life style here in hawaii is way different than in the mainland. but yeah 100% pure breed flip right here. born in the P.I. and raised in the HI.
love my car.........and yes i do get the occasional people who are what you guys call your third leg. just deal with it and move on.

Filipinos is sort of looked at as an epidemic. you can find flips everywhere. from iraq to greece and even in china.........europe...........and here in the states. i can go on with the location s of flips around the world.

I use to be similar, to me personally FLIP is simply a shortened version of Filipino. I know of Filipino's that can't even spell Filipino or Philippines. I still prefer to be called Filipino instead of Flip, but with friends especially American Born ones, its fine. I'd rather be called Flip than see them butcher the proper words.


BTW I want to learn escrima, Ive always thought it would be cool as can be to wield two retractable batons in replacement for the fighting sticks.

Flip... has multiple meanings... both positive and negative. It's an acronym. Its Original meaning was "F*cking Little Island People" coined during the WWII pacific campaign. Anyway... i'm neutral on the topic. Huzzah!

that acronym can be replaced with Funny Little Island People and such. I don't give much .02 Cents on the small stuff.

...im from northshore chicago area... lotsa filipinos.. and i go to UIC where filipinos make up like half the population of students...

and the term flip... not really used around here that much... i think only with the fobby filipinos around here...i dont think they like me that much... but when i went to high school (niles north) there was like only maybe 12-15 filipinos in my grade? not much compared to our sister/rival school where theres like 10x that.... yea bunch of us filipinos here are white washed...but i still love that chicken adobo!

I put Pacific Islander, I prefer to be called that instead of Asians. But there are times where calling yourself part of the asian community is easier on the tongue.

depends what part of the P.I. you're from.....................north side..........asian...........middle (manila section) both.........south side.........pacific islander

nowadays, "filipino" has become its own category under background. ive seen it....

im 3/4, but i would rather disassociate myself. i find that i more relate to my minute caucasian side. not that im racist or anything. i think filipinos are cool, but i HATE how they are so cliquey. so much in fact, thats one of the reasons why i seperate myself. in school, i couldn't hang with the flips because they would all talk tagalog as if it were cool. i cant speak a word of it and hated how that segregated me. why should i have to learn how to speak it just to fit in.

number 2 reason is that they are all gossipy. half of the time i felt like saying "mind your own gd business" or "i really dont care what happened to so and so"

the fact that every flip family thinks of every other filipino as "family" is cool but to an extent. especially when they start looking for you to do favors for them. you cant do one or two good things without them walking all over you, starting to expect that is the "norm". then you can't really back down, because they will make it sound like you're the bad person.

The reason why most of the Flip family that migrated in the west thinks of every Filipino as family is because their real family is 100,000 miles away from them and they don't really have their whole family here to celebrate any special occasions like Xmas or w/e. So they call on their friends to celebrate with themand treat them as family. I personally don't like the "favor attitude" of the Filipinos. I think that is one of the most irritating traits of a filipino, but I know other races that do the same thing... I scratch your back, you scratch mine.

I've been living in the US for about 4 1/2 years now and migrating from the Philippines, I could relate to what you guys said about Filipinos about being cool and jerks at the same time.

One of my few friends whom is also a Filipino immigrant, I know him for 3 yrs now, just called me yesterday and asked me a favor if I could lend him my car because it was his girlfriends anniversary or whatever. His Corolla CE needs to have a brake replacement that's why he was asking me a favor. --- The funny thing is this is not the first time he asked me if he could borrow my car, he even asked me one time to pick up his mom from work because he himself is at work. I then realized too that everytime he calls, it's always about doing favors, which obviously got me agitated now whenever he calls.

I mean this guy is my friend but still there's a side of him that I really don't consider "good breeding." I'm not saying that I'm perfect and saying this made me realize that I myself was like that too a couple of times. But to say because "he is Filipino" I think has something to do with it since we as Filipinos have experienced it here or back in our country and it is a way of life that we were accustomed to.

Now I try to watch my actions and blend in the American way because, it is a fact that I am in America, my car has become my inspiration to work to the very best i can without stepping on anybody.

To end this up, I learned that it is not about the race which defines a person, there are assholes in every race, though some stereotypes can be true and it is hard to differentiate yourself from that unless you really get to know the person.

Your hardcore letting a friend borrow your car, I won't even let some drive my car. True, theres a line where the favors have to stop. I rarely do favors unless they give back. If the person simple talks to me for help everytime, I stay away and avoid them.

If a person is your friend and always ask for help, you dont have to stay away and avoid him. You can always say NO. There only so much you can help a person, right? As for lending cars... HELL NO!!! I don't even let my brother use my 6GC and I'm very hesitant of my wife using it that's why I brought her an Altima. Tell them to take the bus like we all did when we didn't have our cars.

People can say their your friend only to ask for favors... saying no will usually have them avoiding you as well since you won't do crap for them. lol.

hahah dang all that is very true.... i do get annoyed of is that "family" thing... i dunno about you guys but around here...some filipinos here are just ignorant or stupid... like in highschool... there was a group of filipinos who ONLY hung out with filipinos.. now i dont really care who they hang out with... but when they start talking poop,crap,shiiiet about me in tagalog when im right there and i do still fully understand tagalog...NO that does not work for me...they thought i was too good for them cuz only like 15% of my friends are filipino and that i dont speak tagalog in school thats in america where we speak english...sorry but it bugs me haha they can talk all they want just dont gotta talk crap... i wouldnt of cared a cent if they didnt talk any crap.. but thats all they doo they just talk and talk especially if u dont hang with them...plus they were fobs...and they looked uber AZN THUG. which is a helll nah.

kidding aside... i do agree that it is very rude talking in your own language when there's somebody else who can't understand and speak it. I hang out with a bunch of filipinos as well but we don't talk in tagalog whever we hang out with other races. If somebody does speak tagalog, we always remind them that we have company. Its just how we were thought when we were kids. We sometimes talk in TAGLISH or whatever you call it coz not all of us are very fluent in english. I guess the group of flips who hung out with only flips feel more secure and understood when they're around flips. The worst part of being a fob is when you're trying real hard to look not one and blend in but ends up looking and acting worst thus looked uber AZN THUG.

yea ya make sense... i understand they feel secure its theyre comfort zone... but they got teh mentallity that they think theyre better then everyone else and they talk crap about the other filipinos who arent with them...and non filipinos... i know this case is prolly not the same for everyone but its just stupid... it goes back to all that gossip and "chismis" crap...they just gotta realize...theyre in america.. and they cant go talkin crap when someone can still understand them..

Mom's from Manila and Dad's from Dagupan, Pangasinan... I grew up in Manila so I don't know any other dialects. My wife's ilocano and from Paniqui Tarlac. That's why I'm having problems with my in-laws... I just don't understand them sometimes.... coz they speak ilocano

well the flips you guys call irritating should be the visayan and taagalog poeple.......i'm ilokano and i rarely ask favors. i might be irritating to some people..........but if something bothers you...........TELL ME......in a way that kinda doesnt sound biznatchy.

ilokano sounds so cooll haha like its kinda cool how all the other dialects sound cooler and sh*t all over tagalog... like IMO i would rather learn visaya/ilongo
