MAACO VS bodyshop - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #9922 25 posts Started by latinomasfino
i was thinkin about painting my car should i get it done at a local body shop or get teh $600 deal from maaco????
Maaco = TERRIBLE. Search around and find a good shop that will give you a good deal. Maaco is a last resort.
Maaco seems reasonable until you realize that the people working there have stolen enough out of your car to pay for a good paint job at a body shop.

My friend's dad had over $200 if not $400-$500 worth of tools and extra things stolen out of his work van while being painted at Maaco. Not too sure if he was able to get paid back for that.
Well, not to mention they aren't very good at painting cars.
Maaco sucks dont do it.

Maybe I should explain.

Maaco ONLY spays ur car...they dont treat the paint before hand or sand or prime or anything. They take paint, and they spray ur car..thats it. It'll start cracking within a month or so. I did a Maaco job when i had to sell my really old car.

**** i didnt know maaco had such a bad rep,,,,i got this guy he owns body shop my firned says hes awesom he can paint my car same color for about either 900-1000 or to change the colore 1400-1500 is that a good deal?
That sounds reasonable but make sure they r very good at putting on a clear coat because you can best paint job in the would but if the clear coats sucks it will look like s***.

actually the clear coat really isnt HUGE... everything is important, but the #1 most important thing in any paint process is the prep work. ask what they will do to your car before even mixing the paint, thats what will make or break the whole job.

i would consider maaco for painting things like body kits, but not my whole car.

IMHO, macco would be a bad idea for a bodykit, because aftermarket paint jobs chip easy enough from small stones and stuff on the front bumpers, let alone having a horribly done one from macco, plus they arent good at paint matching.

**** $2000 i dint know paint job was that much u can alsmost get a engine swap wiht that
not all macco's are bad...the one around here it pretty good.. but they have to be cause they are so many good body shopes around that do really great work for around 500- 1000 depending on the work... the place i'm going to qouted me 650 to repaint my car black and do the needed body work... and they only use Dupont paint..

damn man less tahn 700 **** tahst a bargin right there i got qupted for 900 or 1400 for new color
i guess i'm lucky that i live in an area that has so many bodyshops around ... they all compete with each other..

[TeamNJCT
ya same thing around here mac, but the problem is in detroit... these people take it as an art form... so instead of price gouging eachother, they each raise the bar on the other, and it gets expensive to go to a really well refered shop. like i said though, prep work prep work prep work, make sure to ask what they will do to your car before even mixing the paint.

But what does the prep work consist of?? I could ask and have them tell me that, "we need to tighten the lugs" as part of the prep work and i wouldn't know the difference.

sanding, scuffing, masking, tacking it off, any kind of conditioning they use on the painted surface to help the new paint adhere, if they use any flex addititive or any other type of additive in the paint to promote longevity and to help prevent chipping. also know if they paint the door jams and engine bay (im sure everyone asks this question anyways), as mac said check to see what brand of paint they use, DuPont and PPG are usually your best bets. if it was me id also check to see what type of spray gun and spray process they use.

has any one from had experience with MAACO from anywhere in Maryland?? cause inonoi my dad said y spend 1500 to paint a 10 year old car of cousre i love my car ahaha but **** kinad was thinkin about woudl to do
So the Supreme paint job isn't that great then? they say it is polyurethane. And they have a 4 year warranty on it, but I guess that is only on the gloss.
I was figuring if u do the prep and sand everything down correct and just have them do the paint and proper clear coat it shouldn't be that bad. Because It seems most people say the paint peels and I figure its because they do no prep(maaco that is.)

I am paying them 100 to prep, then I am hoping it should be ok. Also I think all Maaco's are different due to ownership.
hmm i had a question im getting the z 3 fenders so ill have to paint that and the back part of teh passenger side wehre the back wheel its painted bad kinda yellowish white ill have to paint that too should i just get maaco to paint that instead of my entire car
