Topic #9860 20 posts Started by Mike
I dont care if FWD is better than rear in the winter
It it the crappiest drive system ever and cheapest
Handling sucks, acceleration from stop sucks, boo FWD

I love my celica
But God how i wish it was RWD or AWD.. >frown.gif>

better control around curves.

I think that Celicas handle pretty well for FWD cars....Auto mags have always said that the celica is one of the best handling/braking FWD platforms out there. This is because they dont constantly remind you that youre driving a FWD car like some others out there, like civics or what-not.

RWD cars that ive driven like the BMW Z4 and Camaro SS felt great in their own way, and so did the AWD Subaru Impreza i drove for a while over the summer last year. But i still say that the Celica, or at least mine anyway, is one of the best feeling cars ive driven. Period.

Even after taking my friends relatives Z4 for a spin then climbing into the celica to compare....yeaaa....cant beat getting that level of satisfaction from a car that cost a tenth of what that car cost them. >biggrin.gif> Although I'd still take one any day....

RWD is funner... but FWD is supost to be better... I agree with the RWD being a little easier to slide out... even my celi has a little back end slide. And just learn how to use FWD to your advantage.. I have "drifted" around turns a little before.

there are two kinds of people in this world, ones who complain about things, and others who make do with what they have. I honestly see the merits with both RWD and FWD, but I'm not going to put down one or the other. my celica is perfect for college and spirited driving once in a while, but I'll probably buy a RWD car for weekends once I'm out of school. but do I complain that FWD is crappy, no because I know it has its benefits... my 2 'sense'
RWD is fun though...i probably shouldnt do the things i do with the SUV

FWD RWD AWD all have their advantages and disadvantages.. just make do with what you have..

I don't see why people must complain about a drive set-up, when one isn't necessarily better than the other... It all depends on one thing, which makes a car fun and unleashes a car's capability... the person behind the wheel. The only immediate thing I see that hangs out, about why people complain, is that they'll never be like that Trueno on Inidial D (i just saw the series last week and have finally realized why people have been moaning and groaning)...

I was just using my old BMW as a comparison between FWD and RWD...it was old (1984), but fun.

Yeah! What Mike said! Also, take a look at the Speed World Challenge Touring Car results from last year.

2003 Results

You'll notice that there were 6 race wins for FWD cars (nissan sentra se-r, mazda protege, and acura rsx) and there were 4 race wins for RWD cars (BMW). The rules are written to make these cars equal, but the similarities in prep level are shocking. Notice also that the FWD cars don't suffer much from the standing starts we do.
you can't say that "fwd understeers when going faster".... you can have a bad suspension setup in a rwd car and understeer... hell, the 350z understeers when pushing it.... but don't make it sound like understeer is a bad thing

also, too much oversteer is a bad thing as well.... the key is to find neutral handling with your specific setup.... my FWD car handles QUITE well... and i've proved it on and off the tracks.....

Yah, you're not too far off on that. Realtime has an insane budget, but the technology in the cars isn't that advanced with the exception of maybe the Nissan. I want to know when they're finally going to stop sandbagging and let us know how fast that car really is. I was able to watch a private test of theirs in the off season and the RSX's will be very competitive again, but that sentra....holy cow....it can really move when they're not trying to sandbag.
