P0773 code 96 convertible - 6G Celicas Forums

Short and skinny.
Problem: check engine light. Car starts but you need to give it gas when its cold for the idle to even out.
Code is P0773. Apparently a solenoid in the tranny?

What the **** do I do here?

Bought the car for 900 bucks. Brand new top no rust, minimal body damage... 139k miles on it. Great deal. It drives and shifts perfect. It does make a very high pitched whine under heavy acceleration... That's all I know so far.
When I was doing repairs to my Celica I used a lot of Camry videos because they have the 5sfe in them as well. Beside the engine sitting in a different vehicle, most of the parts are similar. Check out this YouTube video, it should help you with replacing the solenoid.

May as well just replace the rest of them and the filter while you're in there. I think Transgo makes a shift kit for those transmissions that makes them run a lot better too, worth doing if you have to drop the valve body. If you don't need to drop the valve body then don't bother.

That great info guys! Thank you very much!

Any idea on where to find the parts. Rock auto seems kind of generic, I don't want to get the wrong thing with the tranny apart...

Also, Do you think that is why the car doesn't start when its cold, it just turns on and idles down to off... If I give it gas, it levels out and runs fine from there...

IACV or check the EGR system, but EGR issues usually throw codes so check IACV or the idle up valve.

Bought a tune up... cap was cracked and full of ****. Rotor was shot beyond belief. Starts no problem. Thanks guys!
That doesn't take care of the trans code though, you still should look into replacing the solenoids, RockAuto parts would be fine, they're simple parts.

Update:
Changed out the two solenoids in the tranny, filled with 2.5 quarts of dextron 4. Code is still there. I clear the code turn it off and start it back up and the code is still there.

I noticed the fluid that came out was brown brown, and really runny. Does anyone know what the part is for the solenoid in the video?
Ok so I changed the solenoids in the tranny and they were fine. Changes the one in the first video and instantly off.

Note: I did not have to uninstall the neutral control switch. I only had to loosen the bolts on the switch and I was able to get the socket on the solenoid bolts.

Code is clear!
