Fuel gauges is slow? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #94949 12 posts Started by Noahwhite2014
The fuel gauge needle is difficult to move by hand compared to the temp gauge needle. Still works just takes about 2-3 minutes to get to full when i fill up a tank from near empty. Is everyone else's the same way? This is the second fuel gauge i popped in and they both take the same amount of time.
Not sure why you're trying to move things by hand, but it sounds like your fuel level float is sticking some.

Lol i moved it by hand to reset the needle to empty without having to drain my fuel tank

Does your fuel gauge drop to empty when you shut the car off? Or does it stay at the level your gas is at when the car is off as well?
It's not the best idea to move the temp or fuel needles by hand as it could mess with their calibrations.

However to answer your question, the fuel needle will stay at a constant to where your fuel level float was last when the car was on and depending how low your tank level was it could take a minute or two to show full again.

1997 ST:Limitedly GreenThis car is not about racing... This car is not about power or performance... It's purely about being cool.
I always kept mine between the 1/4-1/2 mark so it may take some time to go from empty to full, though I wouldn't imagine it'd take too terribly long.

When I fill up, it takes a couple minutes to get to the "full" level on the guage, it doesn't go up instantly, if that's what you're asking.

My car does the same and I have 96 ST.
Mine has always been slow as well.

Yes this is normal behavior it just takes a few minutes for the reading to change when you fill it up.

I guess it was a good thing I never went to empty and then filled up, it'd drive me crazy having it move so slow. Of course now I have the opposite problem. tongue.gif

Yeah think this is pretty common, mine is the same way. But my car also starts sputtering and stalling once I get down to a 1/4 tank, then it only takes 8 gallons to fill up. Guessing it has to do with the fact that the previous owner had the gas tank replaced.

It does it any time you fill up, not just from empty, as I never let it get that low laugh.gif
