JDM Tail Lights - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #94945 17 posts Started by msk59
Can anyone tell me what is the significance of the JDM tail lights. Are these made better or are better lights then USDM or just tbe bling factor?

Thanks

I personally think they just have a cleaner look than the USDM tails. I used to think they weren't that different so what's the point, but after switching to them the USDM ones just look so ugly tongue.gif

Also, when you witch to the JDM wiring harness too you get quad rear tail and brake lights which is a lot of extra area for people to notice your braking.

Basically..... BLING FACTOR lol. But seriously its a cosmetic change with the body that is mainly just your preference, the only differences as far as bulbs go is that the USDM have side marker lights. JDM style has from inside to out - reverse lights, two constant/brake lights and turn signals. So the choice is yours, either way it would pass inspection as they are factory option lights.

Thanks guys, I did notice a cleaner look but all cars that I saw had other stuff done to them so was harder to clearly see if there is a difference.
They also may be "illegal" in some areas, depending on how strict your inspections/policing are.
I wonder if USDM tails are highly sought after in Japan.

Dunno why you call them USDM, since they are considered OEM in most placed around the world including Japan.

Typically, that's what I hear the North American part named as. Maybe its technically incorrect, but you still knew what I was referring to wink.gif

They just look cleaner to me. The factory lights just look "cartoon-ish" to me, like something you'd see on Speed Racer. The JDM tails look simpler and cleaner to me.

A pic I put on instagram when I received my JDM tails.

They're not DOT stamped, so I feel like I may get boned if I ever get into an accident and the insurance company does a thorough check on the compliance of my RHD car in Canada.
I thought Vancouver was alot more lenient on DOT and RHD vehicles being driven?
I know in Winnipeg they are pretty crazy with inspections and can pull your insurance/ticket you for "improper" equipment like that, but i've never heard of a case yet where claims have been denied because of something like this.

Keep in mind we only have one insurance option from a public insurance company, not sure if BC is public or Private.

Speaking of being crazy about tickets, weather it is Canada or the US. this ticketing on every little "offence" is a money making scam. Every city and county is strapping for cash and this is a very easy source of revinue.
When I was in search for an Out of Province safety inspection garage that would even take a look at my Celica last year, a few garages said that the government was cracking down due to an excessive amount of RHDs that were passing the inspection without a thorough inspection.

Car insurance in BC is only through the crown corporation of ICBC. and is run by the government. Definitely no shopping around for insurance rates here.

Ah so same scneario as Mantioba.
Once your inspection is done are you safe? Or is there always a worry of a random cop reinspecting and failing non-DOT items etc. like in Manitoba?

Im technically safe, but I've never been in the situation where I've been pulled over. I want to get projectors, but in the case of an accident, I'm not sure whether the insurance company would inspect the car for such items (DOT approvals) after an accident, especially with my car being an import and all.
