Turbo or 4agze - 6G Celicas Forums
how much down time can you afford?

There's a very good chance that if money is tight, you're probably much better off going with the turbo and not the swap. This is especially true since the 4agze swap hasn't even been sucessfully complete (to my knowledge) and if it has, its not a widely done swap. Also, there are plenty of people on here that have turbo'd the 7afe and would be more than willing to help you out if you have any problems. With that said, my vote goes toward the turbo.
the 4agze swap hasnt been completed in a 6gc too many times, maybe once or twice that anybody here can prove.
but it does work, i have seen it done in an old tercel.
but expect a lot of down time, and a lot of little problems with a swap, especially since you have to convert to 5spd as well, which will require more parts sourcing and more money.
if money is tight, take some time to think about exactly what you want to do.
i saved money and did research for 11 months before i started putting together my turbo kit.

still unsure but i def will think about it, thanks guys
I'd suggest fixing everything that's wrong with your car first, and then working your way up to turbo-ing the 7afe. I personally know a few people from celica.net that can help you piece together a turbo, and I'm sure there are many folks on here than can help you out too.

but the engine already has 87,000 on it.. i know its not a lot, but is it even worth the time and money to turbo it??
gze swaps are done in corolla's all the time
if you want to turbo, i say get the 4a-gze which is built for boost..... then later when you want the turbo, strip the s/c and take advantage of the stonger bottom end....

I asked a similar question to the crowd on club4ag, and they told me not to waist my time on an A series engine, and to get a 3sgte.
In other words, keep saving your money, and do it right the first time.

since money is tight for you, i would turbo the 7a. you can start out with little things to prepare for it and have fun in the process instead of spending all that time just saving money.

all A series motors use the same mounts.... so yes.... you could do any of the following into a car that came with an A series motor:
4a-c, 4a-f, 4a-fe, 7a-fe, 4a-ge bluetop, 4a-ge redtop, 20V 4a-ge silvertop, 20V 4a-ge blacktop, 4a-gze bluetop, 4a-gze redtop
4a-c, 4a-f, 4a-fe, 7a-fe, 4a-ge bluetop, 4a-ge redtop, 20V 4a-ge silvertop, 20V 4a-ge blacktop, 4a-gze bluetop, 4a-gze redtop
I say don't do either, they both seem very uneconomical.... well atleast more than usual for you in this point in time.
just get a 20v blacktop and be done with it.
