already started the tear down and im taking my time...

as far as reasssembly goes, should i be using these sketchy paper gaskets? or would it be wiser to use a solid bead of rtv or high temp silicone gasket maker?

and, im on the fence about replacing my oil pump as well, seeing as im in there... i already have replacement seals, and gaskets.... i feel like it would be silly not to replace the pump as well....


any tips or pointers are appreciated. thanks guys.

as always, Rockauto.com, you can get the Aisin timing kit with pulleys, water pump, and belt for $80, and the Aisin oil pump already assembled on the new housing for $80. Or maybe this time I would get the Gates belt kit with the pulleys and spring, and then get the Aisin water pump separately. The Gates kit still has the factory Koyo brand pulleys.

1. get ya some nail polish and mark the gear before you pull the old belt off, that will make checking the timing much easier because you really can't see the cam mark well because you can't really get your head down between the motor and the fender.
2. Make sure and rotate it around by hand Twice to check the timing marks before you put it back together.
3. a nice long serpentine belt tool, and some 14mm, 15mm box end ratchets are real handy. That front mount is a real bitch to get those bolts out.
4. From what I understand you are supposed to use the gaskets and O-rings that come with the water pump and NOT put RTV on it. I felt the same way but my friend who has more experience insists rtv will actually cause it to fail.
