Strange problem to have - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #93283 10 posts Started by toyota123
Finished swapping the motors yesterday started on first try and the OBD2 is working.
Only have one issue. My shift lever leans to the right. I can grab the cable from inside the engine bay and pull it towards the drivers side fender well and the lever straightens out and looks correct. As soon as I let go is falls back over. I'm hoping this is a simple fix and I'm just missing something small. Has anyway this happen before?

Thanks in advance

It does. I drove about 2 miles last night and it drives better than it did in the 97 body it was in before

Shift cable is the wrong length. Or more specifically the length of the cable vs the length of the housing.
K I think it is short then is there a know length difference in pre face vs post face?
Motor and Trans came from a 97 GT and went into a 95GT

Are you sure the cable housings are properly inserted at both ends? Did you reinstall the U shaped clips? That would be the first thing I would check...
I haven't received checked the inside yet my time off is over as of yesterday and I didn'tfeel like rripping the interior apart again if I didn't have to. It was dark and raining when I put the hood back on so either way I was done for the night. I was just happy that I was able to get the obd2 working right on the first try and that it drove. It acts like the cable is too short so I guess I'll un hook it from both ends and straighten it back out and see if that works. If not I'll use the cable from the donor and let you guys know how it goes.
Thanks for all the help so far

Not a quick shifter unit?

I don't know for sure, haven't measured. Looks to be stock. Sits pretty high.

TRD Quickshifter isn't any shorter, it changes the pivot point. longer underneath meaning shorter throw. A short height shifter is actually worse as there is more distance your hand has to move from the wheel to the knob.

Just remove the trim around the shifter and you should be able to see if there are any spacers underneath the base of the shifter unit.
