Esprit Spoiler on the 6G - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #92961 19 posts Started by yellowchinaman
When I had the ST202 I really liked the look of the 3 post spoiler.
When I upgraded to the ST205 I had the WRC spoiler with blocks. I tried the all carbon WRC look but never did quite liked it so I went spoiler less for a few years now.

Now I've managed to get the look I wanted.
The Esprit spoiler looks a lot like the ST202 3 post but raised like the GT4.
I mad some custom spoiler legs to seat the 6G boot perfectly.

Haters are gona hate especially the die hard GT4 fans but I love the new look and here's a polite **** you cos I'm loving this look. smile.gif

Hmm... I wonder as to how it'd look about two inches or so up off the hatch and more flat, more OEM like I suppose. Either way I think it works out, being the GT-Four anyway. If I saw it on a FWD version I'd have to point and laugh, but I like it on the Four.

Ooh, it reminds of a GT car sorta.

if it were a little lower it would look pretty similar to the stock 7th gen USDM spoiler.

neat. if it were me i'd like it to be dropped 4-5 inches while still maintaining the angle of the spoiler

Very interesting choice for a wing. It's not my first choice for a wing but it's nice to see something different and new.

Thanks guys. I didnt know there was a gen7 USDM spoiler like this. Probably would had been cheaper then chopping up a Esprit spoiler and remaking it. Lol
The height should be the same as the WRC on blocks accept this has a flaired tip at the back.
I thought about maybe 1.5 inch lower but then it really blocks my rear view.
After watchinf fast and furious movies this weekend, im digging it. Who cares about haters...

Is this all custom? I've never heard of the Esprit spoiler before.

Similar but not even close to the same size as the 7th gen. Here's a photo.

Looks nice, and different. I will have to say though, for me It would look much better a little bit lower, but hey everyone's gonna want it different!
Great job on the custom work, looks neat!

Actually its not from a Lotus Esprit.
Esprit makes parts for japanese sports cars. This particular one I modded was from a Skyline R35 Esprit spoiler. Google image it.
There is no brake light, adjustable in 2 heights and is flatter in the middle with a flaired back edge.
I basically chopped it down the middle and shortened the width by 6 inches so it fallows the shape of the 6G. Then built the base of the legs up and grafted it to the same shape of the 6G boot.
When that was done I had the entire thing remade in Carbon.

All I hear is talk of aesthetics, what about performance?

How many metric tons of downforce does that thing generate? Could you drive upside-down in the Lincoln Tunnel like in the movie Men In Black?

Thats cos no one talked about performance and yes it was done for aesthetics.

Yes I know it was for looks, but in all seriousness that thing is gonna create some crazy drag and hopefully boo-koos of downforce. Any noticible effect on the freeway? It should stabilize the rear end significantly.

Lincoln tunnel scene from MIB, its kinda crappy quality though.
MiB, Tunnel Scene: http://youtu.be/26AlcWnzYvE

Theoretically possible, an F1 car generates enough downforce to drive on an inverted road.
In term of performance it didn't create much of a drag. The last few days I emptied a full tank and managed to get 290 miles doing motorway driving average 80mph.
The week before I had the spoiler I achieved 300 miles from a full tank doing the same journey.

In the past when I removed the WRC spoiler I instantly noticed a lot of swaying at speeds over 70mph especially when going over sudden mild hills and drops on the motorway.

Now with this spoiler it feels pretty much the same as my old WRC and is set to the same angle as my old WRC spoiler.
Very stable on the motorways and actually quieter in the back too.
When cornering at the round about I am also able to hold a slightly higher speed before the tyres start screeching too.

So as a spoiler yes it works very well and I am very pleased with it.
The four is no F1 car so I doubt it'll be doing the tunnel thing. ;P

if you remade it in carbon do you still have the one you chopped up? lol
