door courtesy light wont come on when doors open - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #92610 10 posts Started by celicaluva79
ok, got a weird problem. if i open my trunk or passenger door, the courtesy lights on both doors some on. But, if i open my drivers door, the drivers side courtesy light wont come on. any suggestions? just installed leds in there and want it to work correctly.

also, when taking out my seats i found a connector under my seats with a wire plugged up into it. what is that for? many thanks
Flip the LED, it's polarity matters.

Was the wire plugged into the seat?

Oops, you mentioned it works if you open the passenger door...
Does it indicate on the dash that a door is opened?

If it doesn't show your driver side door open when it is its the door ajar sensor..

If it does, your led probably needs to be flipped.

thanks for the replys. i checked the polarity, and i have them installed correctly, having installed leds before. hoping its the door ajar sensor and an easy fix.
Odds are it's the switch in the door jamb that needs replaced. All it is, is a momentary on/off switch.

The wiring that goes to the seat is for the seat-belt.

im not the most mechanical guy around, is replacing that switch in the door a bastard? or is it pretty simple? thanks
yea, just tested it, its the little rubber knob that gets pushed in on the door. it works, but hardly. any idea on where to find one?
If it's still working try pushing it in repeatedly a few times to see if it'll un-stick. Probably a junk yard will be your only source for an exact replacement.

Most Toyotas use the same sized one. I got mine off of a Rav4 we have laying around for junk. All the switch does is ground the wire so it knows when its opened or closed.
