So, celica Dont have that good of a following. They are slow, not to stylish, can't handle as well as other cars; but why are we drawn to them? That's the real topic that runs through my head every day. Yes we love them, but why?

My experience: I bought a 1990 celica off a old b....... That was my best friends ex Gf. She said it needed a bunch, I'm a tech and just nodded when she said stuff. I put a few hundred bucks into her and she drives like new (the car, not the chick). It had over 350,000 miles on it and in winter I could rip the e-brakeand sit her sideways even on a straight road, and could handle it perfectly like a go-kart (again, the car, not her).

I had to sell it due to finding a shop who actually cared about people and not just the dollar amount coming in. I tarted my own business and needed a van I saw for sale with a tommy gate in the back to lift my small tool cart back and forth. It cost as much as I sold my selly for. I kicked myself ever since because I adored that car and control.

I fell in love with the 6th gen body style besides the flip up headlights. And honestly you can find more up for sale. So I'm sinking 2,000 into a car that's worth 2400 kbb on private party. Just so I have an almost new car with special features that you can't get in the USA.

What's your story?

First car -> Dead reliable, good looking, fun, safe and practical (You honestly can't beat lift-backs for style meets functionality). It does not handle the BEST, but it is pretty darn good. And as a car around town it just works so perfectly... the controls are light which is great when you are in traffic, but the steering is precise, the throttle control excellent and you feel properly connected to the car and the road (unlike most newer cars). I looked out the exact model, trim and specifications for mine for several months before I found it and then flew across the country and drove 1200 miles home with it.

I feel you on that one. I drove 230ish miles to just get a DD and the guy thought I was crazy just to buy a 1,000 car. Yes I pit 600$ just in parts to get it to DD me a 8 mile one way commute, bit I think they are awesome and want other peoples opinions.

A) Fell in love with her while test driving her.
B) Got her for $1200 because of "high mileage" (psshhttt 200k is nothing for a yota.)
C) Second car, had little money from totaling my first, then got into an accident and had to rebuild the front end myself. Sooooo after that happened, I realized my mechanical skills and started doing so much work to her.
D) As slow as she might be, she feels fast while driving and handles amazing despite the completely worn bushings.

I could go on, but cars are like girls, you fall in love with them for certain reasons. Despite there being some downsides, you focus morely on the positive things.

They are very well engineered.

Based on the number of them I see putting around, older Hondas and Toyotas are unkillable

Me. Just started my family a couple years ago. Only had one car. Saw an ad on Criagslist fell in love with the body style and her curves. Had her for a month
month had some issues(minor egr tps tune up etc....) . Made me want to sell her. Actually i tried for a week. Put a ad here and craigslist. Glad no one did. Started reading a bout how to fix cars and all this other stuff ( new nothing about fixing a car ). And got her running again. Fell in live and never looked back. Also seeing everone elses celly made me even more in love. Especially the gt4 style made me more passionate. Just wish i would have got one earlier

To be honest, I kinda hate the way my stock ST looks (stock height, stock headlights, poor paintwork...), but I love the idea of all the possible modifications (drop, projectors, maybe some bodyparts, nice paintjob...) that will make my car look great. When I see some cars here and the way they look, I get that jealous "one day..." feeling.

Soon I am about to finish the engineering school and get a proper job and I'll be able to afford such expenses, but until then... It's just a very reliable and comfortable car, waiting for his turn.
