Custom Fiberglass - 6G Celicas Forums

So, I had a dream..

If you bought a front bumper from a similar vehicle, or any vehicle really,

could you cut the back off of your original front bumper, do the same with the aftermarket bumper.

.. cut the middle out of the after market bumper to fit width.

kind of sew them together (bondo, superglue.. whatever)

then make a mold out the hybrid, and use fiberglass to make a complete piece?

You can buy 2 fiberglass and bond them together. And mold to desire. You cut the middle step. Its been done.

wouldn't that cost more though?
Making a mold out of fiberglass and then making the bumper is no cheap either. Quart of good gelcoat is a good 50 usd, plust the glass itself and resins. Good old ebay for used fiberglass bumper.

joining your OEM bumper to fiberglass is a very big pain in the rear.

fiberglass and polyurethane do not bond well together and have different flexibility which makes it a bad combo
True. Needs to be fiberglass with fiberglass.

i see, well thank you for the help, are there any sites that offer more options for these bumpers? I've only found 4 different AM bumpers so far
Joining 2 fibreglass bumpers is your cheapest and best option. But then by doing so you'll risk making the 6g look like its trying to be another car.
^ That reminds me of this early 90's model Jetta that had an integra front bumper rigged onto it lol, looked pretty legit.. laugh.gif
I have bonded 2 front bumpers in the past. Have no ideal where the pics are. They might be on this forum.

There is a 165 that has a (I think) a VW Corrado front bumper and it looks brilliant.

It would work, not going to be a walk in the park, especially if you've never done it before.
But using the same lights and what not would make it a lot easier than what i did. I love seeing projects go where no one else has. keep the post updated if you go ahead with an idea
