hi guys n girls
I think my celica is not very well atm, this is my problem if anyone could help me.

Everytime I get out of the car after I have driven her I get a strong smell of petrol and it seems to go through a lot of fuel even if I drive like a granny but I cant see any leaks.
It is a GT4 95* model.

any help would be great cheers

Does the smell of fuel remain when the car has not been driven? If so, then it still is possibly a fuel leak...

Otherwise, I did have a similar problem with my car, the smell of petrol after driving and high fuel consumption... I changed my fuel filter and this alleviated the fuel smell problem, and somewhat reduced my fuel consumption (1-2L/100km).

Otherwise, the only thing I can think of is a fuel leak, it could be between the fuel tank and engine, or at one of the various points that tubes are clipped on...

no just smells once she has been started.
I will have a close look at the pipes and will order a new filter and hope that works.

No worries, a few more suggestions:
It could also possible be the Charcoal Canister, If it has been over filled at some point...

OR it could also be caused by the Choke, when you first start the car the choke causes more petrol to flow through the engine and it runs and smells very rich.
Make sure your choke is free and not jammed and is disengaging when required

I will have a look in the morning when its light outside and I will let you know what I can find hopefully its something as easy as the choke.

There is no choke on a fuel injection system. The fuel system is a closed system so if you're smelling fuel, you have a leak somewhere.

EFI cars may not have an exact choke, but they do run rich for the first ten or so minutes of running, and they idle higher too... Basically, this is the same as what a choke would do on a carby anyway...

With a 95, the ECU simply dumps more fuel through the injectors on a cold start -- older Celicas utilized a separate cold start fuel injector rather than a variable fuel map.

There's no separate choke in modern EFI systems, so it won't be that easy. Unfortunately with fuel smells, you pretty much have to start at one end of the system and work your way to the other looking for leaks. The injectors and their O-rings are a good place to start, as they are the most stressed part of the fuel system.

hi guys

I have had a good smell around the car, my neighbours thought I looked mad lol
I couldn't find anything in the engine bay all looks in good nick all hoses etc etc
But I found the smell at end of the exhaust really strong smell, its an after market one Blitz Nur Spec had it on the car since I brought it.
So any clues????

Maybe one of the fuel lines going to/from the tank has rusted a small hole?

Do you have any CEL?

If it is only the exhaust, then I would assume that the car is probably running rich...

But usually, this would be very evident when the car is running as the exhaust fumes would smell rich...

As suggested above, you may have a fuel leak in the rear somewhere?
