i've been looking for a commuter car for a while. plenty out there, but nothing really caught my eye. then a family friend decided to sell this to me over the weekend. score biggrin.gif

it badly needs a new clutch, which i'll be doing in the garage over the next few weekends.

heh, nooo. that's the truck. that's actually why i got this car, because the truck is so heavily modified.

(but that doesn't mean no mods at all... wink.gif )

meh... i'm more of a function-over-form guy. skirts and rims do nothing for me, but adding a field disturbance alarm does. i have one on my truck (for when i take the doors off), and it works great. the instant you stick your arm in, it chirps at you.

some things i'd like to add in the future:
- led lights all around
- led dome lights
- fog/driving lights
- custom battery setup
- e-fan indication circuit
- 1-din stereo and pocket
- cai

that's really all for now. it's my dd, so i don't want to throw too much money at it. i still have a truck that needs an engine rebuild (more likely a swap) and insurance.

i got the clutch done this weekend. next up is the motor for the roof. i think it's just a mechanical linkage or something, as the motor turns, but the roof doesn't move

-j
i pulled my roof motors out today. the driver's side just had a broken pin.

the passenger's side, however:

yup. sheared the 4 allen screws right off

attempts at retrieving the broken screws were... "unsuccessful". i ordered new screws for the "good" gearbox and new pins. i also ordered a used motor to replace the passenger's side gearbox. everything should be here by wednesday, so hopefully i can have a working roof by the end of the week.

also: last friday i got my alarm in the mail. the "factory" alarm was on the fritz. i made sure to solder all connections and test along the way, and it works soooo muuuuch better now. this week i should be getting the field disturbance sensor, so i can leave the top down with no worries.

-j
the roof motors are in. it works perfectly now.

also, my friend made me a chainmail shift boot. pics soon

-j
chainmail FTW!

still needs a bit of a touch-up, but it looks suh-weet!

i seem to be burning/leaking oil somewhere. i had to top it off twice this past month, so i'm on the look-out for oil spots underneath.

friggin oil leaks, man...

-j
so the oil leak seems to have been drain-plug-related. no more leaks.

i changed the plugs, and the old ones came out looking like they had been under a blow torch for the past nine years. lean as hell. new plugs went in, but the engine knocked/pinged really bad. then yesterday i got a cel, so i looked it up, "low airflow in egr valve". pulled it off and cleaned it out, as it was packed full of carbon. now the engine knocks/pings no more! successkid.jpg

when i pulled off the intake, the intake elbow cracked at the throttle body. it's taped up with super33 electrical tape for the time being, but i'll be making a cai soon-ish. that should be a good afternoon project.

other than that, i love cruising to work, top down, blasting def leopard... best half-hour of the day!

-j
and today the crank pulley decided it wanted to fall off the harmonic balancer. at 40mph. that was a fun drive home.

took a swing by the parts store and they had a new hb in stock, so that was this evening's project.

-j
i've been through 2 harmonic balancers in the past two months. fml. that, and the intake pipe is held on with gorilla tape, and i dropped some more cash on a new battery.

also, i'm thinking of doing this mod. a friend of mine did it a while ago with good results:

>Installed a catch can this weekend, using a Craftsman inline air filter for a compressor PN:16009. I ran out of hose so I had to use some air compressor hose(orange) i had laying around. The catch can runs from the PCV to the drivers valve cover into the can then clean air is sent to the manifold.
I hate the fact that the auto industry thinks its totally fine to feed oil vapor into the intake manifold, often before the throttle body, creating a total mess of things that should never see any oil.
