Hi all, while I was driving I notice that im getting a sort of knocking sound under hard acceleration and as i cruised heard what appeared to be that "wooo wooo" sound. I JUST replaced my wheel bearings with a factory toyota wheel bearing kit.


My question is: what would cause a new wheel bearing to go bad? Im 99% certain I put it back correctly and that the person that pressed it in was reputable.

If you're on lowering springs that could be the issue. When I was on Tein S-tech's I had to replace three bearings in a short period of time.

i think wheel spacers will have a greater affect on hub/bearing lowering springs. but once you start putting aftermarket parts mean for performance all oem quality starts to go out the window

I changed the whole hub out, and got a different hub. I keep getting this weird noise when I accellerate as if something is knocking... I checked my control arm bushings and it seems to be ok. Looks like I will have to do another hub check. its really weird.

I don't think this is correct. How would lowering springs affect your bearing in any way?

x2 on the bad hub. Also, the method of install. If you're having it done at a shop, or doing it yourself and they aren't using a press, and simply hammering them in, this can also cause damage to the bearing, and premature wear.

You sure your tires are not rubbing against the plastic under fender?

I took everything off at a pal's house and had the bearing pressed in at a shop. i should have saved pics of what the old hubs looked like!

Im posiitve. i guess whats more concerning is that it makes more of a knocking noise under hard acceleration. my wheel dosent seem to have any give in it (indicating bearing is bad) its only been about 2 months since I replaced it.

Lowering springs does in fact affect wheel bearing. When car is lowered... It changes the camber. Depending how much you lower your car affects the amount of camber differences. With that being said... The more negative/positive camber you have... The more stress you are putting on the wheel bearing.

A bad hub will also cause wheel bearing failures as well.

Wheel bearings don't typically make a "knocking" noise. Not to say it isn't possible. Check your ball joints, sway bar endlinks, and tie rod ends.

While youre at it, check your axles as well. If its making the noise under hard acceleration you may have an axle going out.

hmmm, just thinking outside the box,
how sure are u that this noise deals with suspension ?

might wanna look elsewhere,..

i had a sound like that which at first i thought was from around wheels,
ended up being my motor..

have someone else drive it while u stand out and see if u can spot the sound better.

Since we are here i was the generstion corolla that came with xrs trim with 2zzge motor. Those years corolla front hubs fit. Where os that thread with parts from other cars compatibility
