Indeed. I can think of so many other things to buy that'd be better. redface.gif

at that price you can convert your car to a legit GT-four.

Or pay someone off to import one in really good condition lol. Unless by convert you mean converting those little metal plates lol.

So a high compression 5S-GE N/A with cams and useless exhaust-cam VVT-i does 231 flywheel HP and that's impressive?

Ni**a plz... Get a 3SGTE head, slap it on your 5S, get 3rd gen 3SGE cams and 11:1 comp pistons and you'll probably have 231 wheel horsepower with a proper tune.

That's exactly what came in mind once I saw the 2.2. Lol. The 5s block can provide a lot of power. It's just the fe head that makes it lack power.

I always wanted to ask that question.
Usually how much $ is necessary to convert celi to a full GT-Four in USA?

Thanks

Pistons & crank developed from the F3, JTCC.
2,253cc, Φ87mm 94.8mm. CR unknown
the 5S-FE is
2,164cc Φ87.1mm 90.9mm

In & Ex cams: 256deg, 10.5mm lift

Factory:
In: 252deg, 9.8mm lift
Ex: 240deg, 8.2mm lift

Not a whole lot bigger, though it isn't higher reving. Would have been nice to see the specs of '@ 1mm valve lift' instead of advertised duration.

Also that price is from when it first came out in the 90's, so price has probably dropped.

It doesn't have any VVT-I. Seems a bit pointless sourcing a gen 3 3SGTE head and then 3SGE cams. Just get the gen 3 3S-GE head with the cams in it already, as the heads are pretty much identical.

2nd gen GTE head, 3rd gen cams (very common mod) is what I meant. It's a lot cheaper than sourcing a 3rd gen 3S-GE head in the US...

how feasible is it to really build a performance hybrid version of the 5sfe? just curious as to what the reality of it being built is.

Very feasible. Nobody has done it because it's an all-custom build. 5S-FE block and crank, 3SGTE head, hybrid pistons, rods...etc. The power will really be at 11.5:1 compression, high lift cams (10mm lift minimum) with decent duration, etc...

I know putting GE cams into a GTE head is pretty well known, but still seems odd to me to use the older gen 2 head, with the valve/shim set up (but if you're putting new cams in then you're most likely going to address this) and the ports which had tvis and poor flow from memory.

22#deg @ 1mm valve lift for the cams, maybe a staggered set up for more mid range.

another thing is a reverse head set up...

300hp NA 2L 3S-GE 8,500rpm rev limit
reversed head
dry sump
slide throttle body
6 Speed Sequential DBR box with electronic flat shift
Carbon/carbon clutch

so basically it hasnt been done because a 3s swap is alot easier.

I doubt you could get your hands on one of these engines if you tried. They were most likely built for race teams that wanted the best of the best. Sure you could build a hybrid engine for cheaper, but you're comparing a budget garage build to a fully built stroker engine made by a high-end brand name company.
