1MZFE/S54 axle thread. - 6G Celicas Forums

So, I'm in the midst of my swap here, and I'm at the point where my credit card is almost ready to melt haha. In any case, I came across some interesting information here for guys in the struggle like me.

As we all know, the Celica uses a carrier mount for the passenger drive axle. This carrier mount doesn't bolt up to 1MZ. We have only had one option at this point, and that's to make a custom carrier mount for our axles (or go E153).

What I found is this: a 2G MR2 uses the exact same spline count as us, and is a 1-piece axle with no carrier. I should mention this pertains to 5SF models only. However, there is a slight issue with using the MR2 axle. The MR2 axle is 1 1/4" shorter than our axles compressed to compressed. However, for any competent shop to lengthen the axle the required amount shouldn't be prohibitively expensive.

I brought this up because while most of us are competent enough to do the swap, not all of us can fabricate. I will get prices for a rough idea of the conversion of length tomorrow.

I also can't take all the credit for this idea...Smaay brought it up. I'm just going to see if it works. I hate the carrier mount assembly with a passion, and with space at a premium in the back of the bay, this could be a godsend.
I will have to keep this in mind for my next v6

I'm just keeping with my goal of making this swap as painless as possible. Still won't be a day job like a Honda, but the more parts that can be sourced off the shelf, the less downtime and fabrication needed, therefore allowing more people to do the swap.
