Need to replace the muffler tip on my 95 Celica GT. I want to go a little longer than the stock one that is on there, and maybe a smaller outlet to add a little bit of boost to the hp. I know it won't be hardly any, but does anyone know where to pick one up that has less than a 3" outlet?
If this is a ridiculous question feel free to slap the face on the screen.
muffler tip size to help with performance - 6G Celicas Forums
The muffler tip, unless you go smaller than the exhaust pipe diametre or strap on an illegal length, won't have any effect on performance.
The tip is just for looks, there's nothing to it that'll help performance. So, just go with what looks good.

Yep, knew that I would have to go smaller than the pipe. Anyone know where to find a tapered tip? I realize it is mostly for looks, but since I had to change it anyway....
Got it. I'll just get one that looks real sick then.

I think what he is saying is that there will be no negative impact, unless you went smaller (in which case you would be causing a restriction - and restrictions = less power).
In reality though, even if you did the full cat back exhaust system with new piping and a new muffler you would still have an almost negligible power gain. As Box said; tip is just for looks.

I noticed a slight increase in response when my 2.25" catback was installed, but it really wouldn't make much difference if you're trying t get power...
