Clicking noise?? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #90171 9 posts Started by dcolby10
Hey, any ideas what this noise is? I think it has been happening for a while, but has gotten louder in the past couple of days. I've heard that it could be the solid lifters tapping, but I just want to make sure it isn't something super serious. I am running 10W-40 conventional and I have 2000 miles until the next oil change. My engine has been rebuilt by Toyota and has just under 70,000 miles on it. I rebuilt the tranny and it has 9000 miles on it. Here is a link for a video.

Looks like it's in rhythm with the timing belt slapping, it shouldn't be slapping.

The tension could be wrong then? Or would the belt need to be replaced?
This is a 7A-FE by the way.
How much slack is there with the engine off? It should be pretty taught.

One side is pretty tight, as you move down the belt it gets sloppier; it's not that horrid though.

I'll have to go take another look.
It is hard to judge 4 lb of pressure, but it seems like more than the 6 mm allowance.
You could get a cheap fish scale.

After further analysis, it looks like the tension is correct, the belt is also pretty much centered.
