Wiring speakers to a 4 channel amp - 6G Celicas Forums

Once i get my tweeter covers in the mail, im going to be rewiring my speakers to a 4 channel amp. Has anybody else here done this? I already have my Kenwood wired to 2 12" kicker comps in my trunk with a bettery powering an audiopipe mini amp in my trunk (yes my car runs off 2 batteries-stops my headlights from dimming). I have an 8" speaker in each door(idk the make/model as i got them from a friend that moved recently)and he also spliced in tweeters from the speakers. In the rear i have 2 sony explods installed (not sure of the size b/c the previous owner had them installed).

This will be my first attempt at wiring speakers and i have no clue really what im doing. Can anybody help?

I have already bought 16 gauge speaker wire and another set of rca cables. All will be wired to an older 4 channel Sony amp until i can afford a newer one.

In reality, what is your question?
You secure the amp, run it's power, source, wires to each speaker and set the settings. Done.

I do not know exactly how to get it wired though. I can run wires from the amp but as far as wiring the speaker into the amp idk. Would i splice the amp into the speaker wire? And as far as the rcas, they just get plugged into the back of my stereo right?

The amp has 4 channels to which you connect each of the 4 speakers.
And yes, the RCAs are plugged in the back of the HU/stereo.

Like this, but with tweeters and midbass or whatever you have. Be sure to distinguish left and right channels.

So i do not splice the speakers into wires ran from the amp, i just cut the wires running from the speaker to the stereo and connect them to the new wires? Sorry, im a noob at this

Yes, you cut the already existing wires and connect to the ones you run from the amp.
If you splice the wire, the speakers will receive signal from both the stereo and the amp which is not good.

Use solder and heatshrink for some good outcome.

Well, there is the problem, you actually have only one set of speaker wire in the door if I am reading correctly. And you need 2 sets, one for the 8 and the tweeter. And it's very hard to run new wires through the door and it's rubber jacket. But that is what you will have to do.

My friend spliced the tweeters into the door speakers. So would i only need one set of wires rewired? I think im getting the general idea of what to do

Imagine sub 1 and 2 are the tweeter and the 8.
Two red and two blue wires from the amp have to go through the door and it's rubber jacket that is right next to the hinges.
But you already have two wires run factory, so locate were they are in your footwell or somewhere and cut them, then connect one set of wires that comes from the amp.
You get my point?

One way that comes to minds that you can try to put the wires through the jacket.
Find the factory wire that is now attached to your 8. Cut it on the side that is in the car and to that end connect the new four wires very securely. Then start pulling from the inside of the door so it goes all the way through and you see the 4 new wires.

Oh and since the tweeters are spliced into the speaker wire, i unsplice it, and run the tweeter directly to the amp?

Just run 1 set of wires to each door and attach them to the filters that came with your tweeters. Your then attach your 'normal doorspeakers to that filter as well. Those filters will remove the high frequencies from your doorspeaker and pass themto the tweeters. They also prevent low frequencies (low and mid-bass) to go to your tweeters

I currently have the oem tweeters hooked up. So no filter...

I guess the oem's have a filter inside the oem amplifier then. You can buy these filters seperatly

Those shouldnt be expensive. Cant tell you how much they cost in your par of the world though. Google is your best friend



Edit: found them online for about €20 which equals about $27

The amplifier doesn't filter out high frequencies only. If you connect a tweeter directly to the amplifier, it will burn out soon enough cuz its not build to handle low and mid-range frequencies.

The amplifier doesn't filter out high frequencies only. If you connect a tweeter directly to the amplifier, it will burn out soon enough cuz its not build to handle low and mid-range frequencies.

As I said, the amplifier has filters and you are wrong. It will filter all of the frequency range depending on your setting and the speakers you are going to connecting.

Cant post picture right now but i kniw it has hdp, lpf, bass. Its an older Sony amp.

As I said, the amplifier has filters and you are wrong. It will filter all of the frequency range depending on your setting and the speakers you are going to connecting.



Even if the amp has the filters, ts already has 4 speakers he want to connect. In that case he doesnt have the terminals left to even connect them to the amp. Connecting tweeters directly to any amp is a waste of channels and your tweeters will die real soon. If you want to take that risk, be my guest but I'd rather spend 30 bucks and do it the right way
