Do you regret getting your Celi? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #9 93 posts Started by 1bwilson
Has there ever been a time where you were ready to pack it all up and get something faster, better looking whatever it may have been that caught your eye? I almost did once with a blue Subru 2.5 rs. The only thing that stopped me was my wallet, the car was 17g's and I still owed about 6 on mine. To this day when someone says nice car I thell the its theirs for 15 thousand. The day someone says yes is the day I sell my car. My bro's GF offered 10.5 but thats as close as I have gotten.

>>LOL, yea the only time is when I think about how they lak in performance, but on the other had the styling is soo sooo......great. ITs not another HONDA and its different than anythign anyone else has around here. So basically im saying somethign drastic would have to happen before I would consider selling. Although I wouldnt mind dropping a different engine in but, prob not since im soooo................LOW lol.>> rolleyes.gif

99 Toyota Tacoma
There was a time when I was considering selling my car and getting something else. I really, really wanted a hatchback and something fast, so I started looking at Integras and I almost bought a black '94 GSR with 30,000 miles for $10,500. I was gonna buy it, but my parents decided that I didn't need an even bigger car payment or a faster car, so they didn't let me.

Now that I look back I'm glad that I didn't get that car, because it seems like everyone has an Integra these days. It's rare to see another sixth generation Celica here in town, but there are Integras everywhere.

New Toyota project coming soon...
Every once in a while I would like to have more power but then I also want to be orriginal. Thats what I love about this generation they are rare. When we were crussin gatlinburg durning the 2002 Pigeon Forge Celica.net Meet I only saw maybe 1 other 6th gen. But I love my car.
i never really questioned or regret getting my celi, it's so rare around here that anything i do to it seems to catch attention, plus there are starting to be more of a market for our cars, so it's all good to me, good job on the sight coomer! biggrin.gif

i regret getting my damn st.mad.gif i thought it was a gt when i bought it, cuz it said so on autotrader. i found out it was an st after coming to this site (hmm a gt badge on the gt...imagine that). i guess its not a bad thing since my insurance is cheaper with the st. other than it not being a gt, i pretty much love my car.
i thoght about trading my car for a second gen Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX. they all wheel drive and turbo, everything i wish my celica was. i didnt do it because i found out about a serious crank walk issue with those cars (you engine can die at any time!). other then that i love my car.

All of your are very lucky to own a celica.

I am hoping to purchase Miss Cell next year.

They are very rare vehicles. Always remember, swaps are alway possible to those of you who really want a GT bad.

Once you can get parts for the celi, keep and enjoy it.

I think that the GT overseas has the 3S-GE engine in it with either 180 or 200 horsepower. Am I right west_minist?

New Toyota project coming soon...
Yea about 3 months ago I went to Honda, yea I know, whats wrong with me? I was having some problems with my brakes I thought it was a Toyota problem. but it turned out to be that the break line was loose. But i got that fixed and now i love my 95 ST even more. I'm going to keep my car it the wheels fall off.

Sometime i think bout it just because of the lack of performance mods available but i mean the funnest part is fabricating and being original. I enjoy that alot.

hmmm...interesting...the name of my car is Miss Celi...so umm, yeah...wanna buy it?

But seriously, thats her name, missy for short.

My car has served its purpose...I wanted a chick magnet...the celica is that, specially being the bright iris pearl color. I met my current G/F because of the celica, she is a big fan, so you know. I found the celica when I went to look at a 5.0 vert...lol. O well.
I bought my '99 GT in October of 2001. I figured it'd be the perfect car to mod. Boy, was I wrong. I cannot believe the lack of aftermarket support for this car! It's unbelievable! Anyways, I was sorry at one time that I bought it, but now that there some companies starting to make aftermarket items for the 6th Gen, I'm happy for now. The car just kinda grows on you after awhile. Plus like others have said, it's not every day you see a 6th Gen Celica driving around. But, I'll keep mine until it gets replaced with a 93-98 Supra SE or TT. I have a brother who works at a Mercedes dealership in Clearwater, FL. He's going to keep an eye out for me and when one comes in, I'm heading to Florida to make a trade! wink.gif
The only time i ever regreted having my celi was around the first 3 months of owning it. The guy i got it from didn't take very good care of it and in that 3 month period of me having it everything that had that cheap ass sealer on it just gave out .. I had to replace the radiator, hoses, water pump, warped head repair, then the whole engine itself....But at least it runs great now wink.gif
You know.. while I'll never regret owning my celica.. I do regret not doing enough research in to potential of the motor, and the aftermarket support for it. It didn't even occur to me, that I could do so little to it. I kinda feel bad that there's such a small Niche on the net for it compared to other japanese imports. Oh well, I love the look of it, I wouldn't trade the look of it for anything. That's the only reason i'm keeping it around. Besides, down the road, I can do so much more to it, It just takes a lot more cash.

I suppose if anything this car will teach me the mechanics of an automobile, what makes it run, and what makes it run faster. It's more of a learning experience than anything for me.. I love reading up on the celica.net forums with all you guys, it's techno babble that means so much to me (If only I could understand half of it.)

Oh, and I like it when cute chicks ask me "is that a supra?" lol. smile.gif

i never regret buying the celica why cause it wasnt meant for drag racing .. take your celica to a curvy road and youll see how good it feels and how you can keep up with the faster cars....

and as far as parts go i am currently talking to a few performance shops on parts to be custom made for the 6 gen 7afe and 5sfe , ill keep you guys updated on what parts i get... also if there are rare parts out there that you might want let me know im pretty sure the shop i talk to can get them for you
later
the JDM and european version with the 3s-ge is the SS-II, unless im mistaking... lol wouldnt mind having that engine though.... tongue.gif

I think that it's the SS-II and SS-III in Japan and a few other overseas countries, and the GT in some other overseas countries. I'm not really sure on that though. wink.gif

New Toyota project coming soon...
yes the SS-III also, i love the lip kit they have on that car!!

EDIT: hehe page 2 OWNED once again.

Nope i never regretted getting the celica
it's actually still my moms... hehe
=> we had a 4th gen, i had an accident with it (wasn't my fault) but car totally trashed so we got a new one and i got to pick it cuz normally i get it when i graduate smile.gif
i'm still studying so during the week i'm away from home,
my mom is a teacher so she only needs the car for her work during the week
in the weekend i get home and mom only had to do a quick visit to the local supermarket and i can use the car the rest of the weekend smile.gif

so i don't regret my mother getting a celica smile.gif
hehe

the only thing i'd rather drive is a supra smile.gif
must be great to have so much power in your car!
and the supra still has THE looks

the only "bad" thing about the 6th gen celica is ist "poor" performance
sure you can beat the average family car... but damn it its supposed to be a sports car!

ah well it feels great to drive and it looks verry verry good smile.gif
ignore this

99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =)
hahaha, it's been a while for this but i wanted to add this anyway. i never regreted the celica just wished it was rwd. the only car that will replace it in the next years is a supra but i will still keep it. it just won't be the same. oh and i still hate when people ask what year supra it is
damn, talk about a really old thread from the dead. anywho... i love my car too much to ever sell it. i'll keep fixing stuff when they brake and replace the engine (with an even better one) when it dies. the only other car i wish i had is a st205. sexiness with the performance to match. plus extremely rare in the u.s.

ss-iii splitters and 404 skirts areon. which means i need to update my sig.
after my first one was totalled, i was under the impression that i could get another celica and make it better than it ever was.

i now regret getting another one.

sorry. i guess i lost the celica inspiration.

YoungSurvival.Org-Celica traded for.. 350z.. traded for Mazda5.. soccer mom!
thinking about selling it for a Miata so that i can beat the hell out of it on track instead of my S14.
I had my for 3 years now...
and I still LOVE it biggrin.gif
I wanted one ever since high school... which was a long time ago tongue.gif

Sometimes i look back, and i think to myself about all the other cars i could have gotten for the price i paid for the Celica. I could have gotten something faster, maybe RWD, with a better aftermarket. But then i look at my life, and i realize that things wouldn't be the way they would be if i hadn't of gotten my 6GC way back when. I wouldn't have met a lot of great people, and i wouldn't know that much about customizing or fabrication. Most of, if not all my friends that i have now, i met becuase of my Celica in some way or another. I looove the way my life is and who i've become becuase of my Celica. Owning such a slow car kept me from becoming big headed or cocky haha. I think the 6GC has made me a better person over the past few years. And im glad i got one becuase this is one of the nicests communities out there smile.gif.
I bought my ST as a project car about 2 and a half years ago.
It was pretty beaten and used up all over the body (for example, stones managed to remove the paint job from the hood, and there was even some rust on the fender flares), blue smoke was coming out of the exshaust pipe whenever I came over 5,5 K rpm, and the 7A-FE powerplant was consuming more oil in a month, than 200 fat people would for a 3-day barbecue weekend every week for a year. smile.gif It also had a small amount of about 155 000 km (or about 100 000 miles) on the odometer.
Suspension was no longer called that (since the shocks were permanently "shocked", and one of the springs cracked in 3 different places...also, the bushings and some other stuff were completely gone.
As far as the interior is concerned, the seats were also in a very bad condition, and almost every plastic part in the interior made its own snap crackle and pop ™ sound while driving around town...smile.gif
So yeah, you might say that I bought a piece of crap!

But...

Ever since I sold my Audi 80 (which was at the time just about as tuned as it could ever be), and my 1973. VW Beetle (which was also a kind of a show car), I wanted to buy a car for myself that I could really enjoy and tune and re-style as I saw fit...so, after a while, I looked at some European cars (Opel Calibra, BMW 320is (E30), and even FIAT Coupé), and decided not to look any further, so I switched to Japan, and narrowed my choices to Mazda Astina (323F, BA) , and Honda Civic Coupe 1,6 VTEC (EK)...
Mazda fell out of my good graces because even though it looked pretty cool and kinda sporty with its curved bits and pieces, it was in fact pretty dull, very lumpy and slow.
Honda on the other hand also looked very good, its quality is indeed renowned in these parts as much as it is in the rest of the world, and its speed and acceleration were satisfying, but it still had one major flaw...its interior looked like a 15th century toilette, made me want to throw up my fine lunch when I actually sat in and considered driving it, so needless to say that it was just not good enough for me to sit in for a longer period of time!:)

After that experience, it was pretty hard for me to sit in any Honda (including the last two generations of Prelude...the one with te "Star Trek" console, which is stretched all over the car (including the peripheral view), and the one after...which is about just as ugly as the one in the Civic, but a bit more hard to describe!:)).

One day, I was so eager to find myself a car, that I went out to look at Toyota Paseo...needless to say that I abandoned the idea as soon as I entered the first curve on the road!

So, while I was checking out this Toyota, a friend suggested made me to look for some other one...and that was a Celica...

5th generation is one of those "always cool-looking" cars that defy all ages and times, but it was just not quite cool enough (and there were no GT-Fours available for purchase at the time), so I started looking at the 6th generation...
At a glance, it was a bit too big, and it was WAY TOO expensive for me (especially since there are only a few of 6th generation examples driving around in Croatia), GT´s were more rare to find than a golden frog that grants you wishes, but I somehow managed to find one ST that could...the rest is more or less described in the beginning of my post!

So why did I buy it?
Because of 3 things;

1. It was cheap
2. It was love at first sight
3. I obviously was lacking some experience, since I bought a project car which would be tough to work on, since the aftermarket parts are even more rare than my sleep overs at Cindy Crawford´s house!:)

But...(reprise)smile.gif

I´ve spent a small fortune, and I rebuilt Mako (yup, that´s her name;)) yet again...and now, she´s painted, bodykitted, upholstered, engine is completely repaired and modded with 2-liter bored 7A-FE block (unique mod in these parts, at least to my knowledge) and lots of other goodies. Suspension got its new edge (even if it still may be relatively high off the ground;))...one might say that everything more or less sat in its place perfectly!
I just need some JDM projectors, and it will be all done!

So, as a conclusion to all of this, I must say that everything (so far) has been more than satisfactory for me! I really adore my car!
Of course, the speed of it may not be so thrilling, and the acceleration might to be missing from time to time (especially on 18˝ wheels), but at least I´ve got good gas mileage, and still I´m not driving a Civic, which is pretty much self explanatory.biggrin.gif
One day I will sell it eventually, but it will definately be a part of my driving heritage forever...just because it is so giving.

I just wish that Toyota once again turns its corporate mind to making yet another generation of Celica, even though the 6th generation´s flare and driveability will never be quite matched (IMHO).

Sorry if I got carried away with writing...smile.gif

Another proud 6G Celica owner!
