Anyone ever overhauledi their braking system? - 6G Celicas Forums

I'm not talking about changing brakes and pads for upgrades I mean through entire hydrochloric system for an after market one or maybe a compatible change with one like a is200?
Brake lines are a PITA. If your willing to route new lines and bend new lines than by all means go for it. Stock is usually good enough. Its not like your gonna go do some hardcore road rallying, or high speed circuit driving and if you did your using the wrong car.
I doubt anyone has actually replaced their ENTIRE system.

Why would you want an IS200 brake system?

I could see upgrading to individual resevoirs/master cylinders like most race applications. but as far as the hardlines, they should be sufficient.
just wanted to see if anyone has and trying to think outside the box because lets face it. The gen 6 doesnt have a very responsive system.
Then, I would suggest you look into the independent master cylinder approach, from a quality company like brembo and the like. These are more performance oriented for the track purposes.

now i am a true believer that its the bmc which is the source of the gen 6s slow response.
Ive worked on many celicas and posed on other forums about the pedel having to be pressed a bit before you feel the initial bite.
Doesnt matter what pads or rotas or oil you are using. It is all the same. This significantly increases if you go for a big brake kit like a D2 8 pot caliper.
In one forum someone pointed out the movement in the bmc and measured a move of just 2mm.
Like others i didnt think much of it and thought that curing it with a stopper would be a waste of money however i was explained that the 2mm magnifies the ratio in travel eg. 1mm flex could be he cause of travel of 5mm on the pedel so 2mm flex would cause the pedel to travel 10mm further.
I thought about interchanging the bmc alone with another more modern one from an is200 (just a thought at the spur off the moment. im sure there are better and more adaptive examples out there).. No need to change the copper hoses etc just adapt it.
But after seeing what youve done id be interested to hear how it feels but i think its fair to say itll be a while till its up and running?
One thing i have noticed though is that the twin bmc you have is mounted to a base before the fire wall. Do you think that will help reduce the flex?
