My husband was driving the celica home from work this morning and the engine finally gave out. Been having the probable clattering rod knock type noise since we got it 5 months ago, but he said it got louder on the freeway about 6 miles from our house, then about 1 mile from the house it blew a big puff of smoke, dumped a bunch of oil and died.

So we were planning on a rebuild anyways, but I'm not totally sure if it has thrown a rod or not. Almost sounds like something else...but I suppose we won't know until it gets torn down.

you might have thrown a rod through the block, if thats the case it will need replacing. well the block will at least

Edy duct tape is my other husband! Ok, not really, but it definitely can fix stuff better then he can... haha!

And yes, I'm pretty sure Jeff is right...... that's what I've been waiting for each day. At least it didn't happen on my birthday, but close enough Guess I know where all my bday money is going! On the bright side I get to go to SEMA this week!

Who has a spare engine laying around???

The 7a should be pretty easy to come by in junk yards.... They were in so many cars, they should be pretty cheap too. I would look on car-part.com and see what's around you

Celica(obviously) and Corolla/Prism come to mind. Probably it as far as North American market cars go.

yep they are everywhere, but they are also OLD. thats why no matter what i recommend a full rebuild.

Cost of another engine and rebuild might as well swap...
