[5S-FE] Anybody ever tried a "half-rad"? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #87779 10 posts Started by Syaoran
Has anybody ever tried to run a half-size, dual core radiator in a 5S? My fans went, and I'm pondering if it's worth it to do the conversion, since the previous owner ran plain tap water. Our water is drinkable so it's not as dirty as in other places, but it still got rust.

I'm interested to see how you got it installed.

For aesthetics? Whats the benefit of doing this?

We have a toyota, not a honda lol

Benefit? I don't think a CT-26 manifold with a T3/T4 adapter and a GT3071R is going to fit without removing one of the fans, both fans are blown and my radiator is old.

Where I live, we don't keep it brand-loyal, if something from another brand is better for your application, then why not? tongue.gif

Saw that but that's a 7A and the coolant hoses are routed differently. I'm going turbo as mentioned above. I made this thread more along the lines of seeing if anybody had done it to see install pics and perhaps have them share their hose setup.

P.S. These Honda rads are cheap and readily available, and are just as good as our stock ones if not better... a radiator is a radiator, it's all cheap aluminum and paying premium for something that doesn't even have a warranty (Koyos) is kinda dumb.

Well, I really never asked if it worked or not... I know it will. This is more of a picture request thread to see if anybody's done it before to see how they have their hoses routed. Anywho I found one for $60 bucks so I'm going to get it. I'll share pics when I get it mounted.

I see, I don't know much about turboing tongue.gif

That Honda thing is just a joke. I am always curious why Honda radiators are smaller than Toyota's.

Well technically they're not smaller. Our stock rads are long but are only single-core (one line of fins for the coolant to fall through to get cooled down).

Honda radiators are just as good because they're half the size of ours, but have two lines, or cores. Imagine taking our radiator and bending it in half.

if your using an original manifold then NO you will not have clearance issues

my custom manifold mounts my turbo lower and further forward than stock and i was still able to fit a full size 2 core radiator with the original non-slim fans

- Core size (mm): W625*H348*T50

- Overall size (mm): W664*H442*T64

I'm going to use the stock manifold, adapter for t3 and external wastegate, and GT3071R. You think I'll have no clearance issues?

EDIT: You mind sharing a pic of your setup? smile.gif
