cause, lean fuel mixture as a result of the factory fuel pump failing while under boost.

when the pump wore out, i turned down the boost to 4psi and limited my driving(drove my beater around)

but the damage was done, the #2 piston was sevearly weakened. after i got my new walbro pump i raised the boost back to normal because the car was running fine except for one thing

soot and condensation was blown out the tail pipe upon initial start up after the car was parked for a few hours

so a few weeks ago i was driving hard making WOT runs and for some reason my boost went up to 12psi and thats when my piston gave out.

there is a whole long story that goes with that night but i'll make another post about that.

good news is im getting a new engine from toyota for a whopping $40(they want me to pay for new plugs, cuz the ones i had in there where not recomended and are being blamed for the damage)

turbo ST, driven 6,000 miles at 8-10 psi normally, and 12psi on the last night.

everything else is perfect, and had i not been cheap and gotten a fuel pump and the begining, my car would still be going strong with out any problems.

so if you are doing major upgrades

DONT GET CHEAP AND USE THE STOCK FUEL PUMP >>

also make sure when your boosting to set it a little on the rich side. leaning under boost is not a good thing, its always good to have a little insurance. thats y toyota set the 3sgte to be rich. you cant lean out the 3sgte motor with the CT26 turbo, its nice for the added insurance.

What fuel pump is recomended if the stock one isn't any good? Also, can the ST and the GT have the same type of aftermarket fuel pump?

There is a guy on ebay that is selling a Fuel Pump "Venom", I think. He said something about the person he got if from had decided to use two original Fuel Pumps as aposed to this after market one. Does anyone have any information about this?

Yea, I remember that venom fuel pump... It's a supposed direct replacement for our stock one. I wonder what it's flow rating is....

Hmmm, I used a Walbro for mk3 Supra (87-92). The stock pump connector fit the Walbro's harness but the stock harness didn't fit the Walbro's connector. Anyway, the Walbro's base pattern is different from the Celica so that pump will stand a little bit crooked to the side. Also, you have to use the panty from your old pump because the one that the Walbro brings has a thicker plastic base so it hits the bottom of the tank and doesn't let you seal the pump. My fuel feed line fitting was so tight, I had to carefully cut it little by little with a hacksaw blade and then connect it with the little piece of hose the Walbro brings. It was a pain in the ass. But at least, and miraculously, it's not loud at all. It sounds cool and you can hear it only a little bit, and outside the car it sounds trippy, kinda like a little swimming pool pump >>
