TRD Rear Splitters - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #87524 46 posts Started by ILoveMySilly97
I received the TRD Rear Splits about a week ago and I tried installing them. I noticed that it's a bit too long? Like it doesn't sit flush? It makes me wander if the hatchback models had a longer rear end? I have a liftback model. Does anyone have any idea why it's like that? The parts are genuine btw.

Coupes and liftbacks have different rear bumpers.

Are they replicas or genuine Toyota parts? Replicas are virtually never perfect unless purchased from a very reputable source. The genuine parts should be a good fit. Coupes/Currens have different rear ends than a hatchback/liftback, so the Curren splitters are a couple of inches longer to compensate.

Damn. That makes since then. I think I got the coupe rear splitters. It's a bit longer. This sucks. Oh well. I guess I'll have to put them up for sale then. Oh and I'm pretty sure they're genuine. Since it is that black plastic.

Here's the link to the actual eBay post that I bought it from. It clearly says st202/st205/gt4 and as far as I THINK I know. There's no such thing as a coupe st202 or st205. Right? They're all liftbacks?

If they're genuine Curren splitters, you've got a highly sought after set. Can you post pictures? There were no coupe ST205's and so far as I know, no coupe ST202's but I can't say for sure.

THose I believe are for the liftback. From what I see in the pic, they look just like mine, & I have a liftback Celica.

-Hope I helped, Ryan
Those are definitely genuine Toyota parts, not replicas. I can't see why they wouldn't fit... Then again, looking at Google Images and trying to compare pictures isn't exactly mathematical science. I'll try to get some measurements on my liftback splitters in a couple of hours, just to give you something to compare to.

Ok, first off ... liftback and hatchback are the same thing. Liftback is just an older term and is still currently used outside of the states as we love to bastardize the English language.

The ones for the coupe/Curren and the ones for the hatchback/liftback look the same but the coupe/Curren ones are a bit longer.

Measuring the inside, my liftback splitters came out to be around 19". Pictures just to show my points of measurement.

But liftbacks and hatchbacks aren't the same thing. My OCD compels me to recognize the difference. tongue.gif

Hot Shots! is awesome. That is all.

Box- you are correct. A hatchback lifts out then up, a liftback lifts straight up. Something like that, anyway.

Edit: stolen from Wikipedia.

Hatchback- Incorporates a shared passenger and cargo volume, with rearmost accessibility via a rear third or fifth door, typically a top-hinged liftgate—and features such as fold-down rear seats to enable flexibility within the shared passenger/cargo volume. As a two-box design, the body style typically includes A, B and C-pillars, and may include a D-pillar.

Liftback- A style of coupé or sedan with a hatchback; used especially when the rear access door is very inclined, opening more upward that outward.

That and liftbacks are way sexier. wink.gif

Lol I agree, but try pulling that when your searching for parts or buying a car in the US. You know that when you do a parts search and have to select trim it ALWAYS asked "coupe or hatchback" .... tell me I'm wrong ... do it ... lie to me ... I dare you ... you won't ... your scared ... cwm13.gif

That being said ... I agree, not only is the "liftback" sexier ... but it sounds cooler.

Wikipedia also said that: David Beckham is Chinese, Gary Oldman is a Giraffe, and I believe at one point the entry for Batman was simply, "Duh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh Duh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh BATMAN!"

Mines actually came out the same too. I think it's probably because they weren't fully mounted when I put them on. I know for sure I'm going to have to drill holes onto the rear bumber for the back part of the splitters. That might help it sit flush more. I guess I'll have to wait til I get them painted and fully mounted to determine if they do fit or not. Well thanks for the info though. At least I know it SHOULD fit. smile.gif

Aight. Here I am again. Back to the drawing board. It's mounted and doesn't fit.....I don't know why because it should fit. I've heard my friends talk about how the Honda guys would use a heat gun to "mold" their lips into the bumpers?

Silly97 ProgressDirtBag87 ProgressCalifornia Members Check In
I wont recommend that, When I bought mine they don't look like they gonna fit but then eventually find their place.

why don't you just post a pic of how it looks when you try to fit in, to see and figure it out why they don't do it.

1994 ST Celica --> no swap --> 7A rebuild1974 Mustang --> Almost Restored
Mine didn't fit flush and they were OEM Toyota ones.. Could be age of plastic or how the other person handled them...
Mine doesn't line up either and the right side doesn't even have screws in it yet...

Basically I used sikaflex and double sided tape to put them in the exact position I wanted and then masking taped the on.. 10mins later I drove to. Toyota meet LOL masking tape and all xD

Mine also look identical to those smile.gif

Exactly why it makes me think these were for the coupes. It shouldn't be this off if it was for the liftbacks. I would like to test fit these on another coupe. Hoping there'll be a coupe at the upcoming meet and they'll let me test fit them on their car.

Silly97 ProgressDirtBag87 ProgressCalifornia Members Check In
That or keep them in the car and if you see a coupe just test fit it on the spot. tongue.gif It has to be they're the coupe ones. Even with a little deformation from age they wouldn't be that far off.

The left side was the exact same until I got the two screws into the mounting points for the OEM mudflaps:

Liftbacks are 174", where coupes are 177". The difference in length is all behind the rear wheels. If those were coupe splitters, they would be much more than half an inch too long.

That's nowhere as bad as Silly's gap though.

Hmm, aftermarket rear bumper cover perhaps? Are there any accidents reported on it?

My gap was worse until I put them on and used force to mold them to shape...
The gap remained until I put the screws in, which then brought it to a tiny gap...

I was so worried about damaging them though when I did this... >.<

It's a clean title car and I'm pretty sure it's stock bumper. Looks like every other stock bumpers.
