How to replace Camshaft Position Sensor of 1995 Toyota Celica ST? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #87448 9 posts Started by dangqiwu
My 1995 Toyota Celica ST's camshaft position sensor in the distributor is broken.
The engine light turn on and the code is 12. However, the car still runs well on highway.
My question is, what kind of reason made it damaged like that in the picture?
I just wonder if I replace the distributor with a new one, would it be broken again?
And, is there any way that just replace the camshaft position sensor? I can only find the whole distributor on sale.
Thank you!

By the looks of it, I think it'd be better to replace the whole thing...

1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold1994 Celica GT Liftback
I had to bite the bullet and buy a Remanufactured distributor with a lifetime warranty. I wasnt able to find just the pickup coil, which is what you're looking for.
You'll have to replace the whole dist.
I can't believe the engine was still running....
Yes the car still works.
Do you know what kind reason to damage the camshaft position sensor like that?
Thanks!

You could always call a Toyota Dealer and have them try to look up the part.
That's not a separately available part anywhere.
You'd either have to buy a used dist and take that apart for it or have it custom made.

It looks like there was something inside the dist that kept hitting the pickup as the rotor was spinning and that tore it up.
Thank you guys. I bought a new OEM distributor and it works well so far. The engine light is off.
Hi, I just got the code for the camshaft position sensor and I found some on eBay.
The ones I found are for a 2.2L and mine is a 1.8L.
Is the 2.2L compatable with a 1.8L?
