Ive seen several people remove them when modifying their brakes.

what does everyone think?
Learned a lot in 10 years...I hardly log in anymore, last loginToday Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOLIf you PM me and I dont respond, dont fret or cry. Always wondered that.. don't think I'd ever remove mine tho.

Dust shields serve two purposes -- they protect the brakes and and potentially the hub bearings from being contaminated with road grime (and any leaking oil from the engine), and to a lesser extent shield the steering and transmission components (particularly the boots) from debris.

There's really no benefit to removing them except for making it easier to access your brakes or to accommodate oversize components.

On the rears, of course, they're required to mount the drum brake hardware or the parking brake hardware.

They also protect certain components of the steering/suspension system from excessive heat that the brakes can give off, if they become glowing hot. Never seen it happen on my celica, but i have seen it happen on other cars. My friends GC8 and my S14 have all fallen victim to that.

it would make room to be able to mount air ducting to cool the unit
