celica st/ corolla - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #87247 10 posts Started by toyota123
Does anyone know definitely weather the 1.8l st uses the same tranny as the 1.8l 7th gen corolla? I ask because I want to know if the cc axles will be the same.I plan to upgrade the suspension to the celica 5 lug all wheel disc brake set up because after a nice weapon r intake a set of headers and a high flow cat I just think The standard suspension isn't going to do the trick ..... The car is much more aggressive now.
Sorry if I posted in the wrong section wasn't sure if I should post here or in engine section

thanks Joe

there are some 92-97 Corolla that come with 7afe engine. The other engines are the 4afe 1.5 or 1.6 liter engines.

they use a C series trans just like the 7afe but idk if it is compatible.
all I know is that a 85-90 4age engine found in corolla's and mr2 will not bolt up to a C52 transmission found in 94-97 ST Celica's

if its a c series trans, it will bolt up, only in fwd format. the rwd like the 86 corolla obviously will not work. if im not mistaken a c52 and c53 are the same just the 53 is more refined.

the 2zzge and 4age blacktop 6 speed are the exact same transmission. the 2zzge has no lsd and the blacktop has a lsd. the bellhousing is different between them
^^^ this is the same case for the 85-90 4age vs the 94-97 7afe engine.

What your saying makes sense, but the corolla was rwd back then. unless your talking about the 4age that was offered in a fwd version from that time.
So far from what I've learned through a friend at the parts store the cv axels are definitely different lengths which isn't a problem I'm down to going to the local junkyard and measuring the routers and counting splines. I had previously considered using parts from a Camry but there is a size difference there that frightens me. Not sure if it going to be bolt on or if I will have to make some hybrid axels. I'll let you guys know for sure though as I've noticed many of us celica owners have corollas for daily drivers
