Replacing Valve cover gasket. - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #85364 13 posts Started by Xander_X
About to change my valve cover gasket this weekend. Never done one on a 5S, just wondering if I should keep an eye out for any surprises, anything special I'd have to do or if it's pretty straight forward like most other engines?

straight forward. only problem I had was finding a socket to unscrew those giant rings

i believe those rings are a 30mm. there are four of them. one for each cylinder. use a socket as opposed to a wrench. it is a pretty straight forward deal.

and dont forget the fipg or rtv on the humps.

Thanks guys, I didn't want to break any unforeseen plastic bits or anything.

Might want to buy a PCV valve because it's either going to break or it doesn't hurt to replace it anyways? Most likely it'll break. It's normal.

WAY ahead of you! Bought that when I bought the gasket set. But thanks for the look out!

looks like I need to replace a valve cover gasket. I saw Special Edy's video, in the video he mentioned posting more pics, did he ever do that?

love to see. them.

As for gaskets, I thought I read somewhere about a metal gasket, but that may have been for a main seal. Is there a type of preferred gasket for the valve gasket and tube seals? Fel pro ok?

Napa mentions a set with grommets, what are those?

Valve cover gasket is rubber. The grommets are what seal the space between the spark plug tubes and the valve cover.
