Locking Header Bolts? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #84410 9 posts Started by CELICA735
I have a set of headers on my Celica 7A-FE but I keep getting a leak right by my header gasket so I was looking into getting locking header bolts so I can tighten it up cleanly and avoid the head aches(police). Any help would be appreciated even the size bolt would help. Thanks
the bolt is loosening or the flange is warped?

^this. Take a file to your flange and make sure its flat. Learned this after working on aircooled flanges (hot, warpy).

Headers? you have more than one in there? just busting your balls, he he. the bolts should be 10X1.25 get some studs from the dealer and new nuts they will hold

Adding to Smaay's answer and taking it way farther than it needs to go.

If for some reason new nuts don't work, try loctite. If for some reason that doesn't work, and then try security locknuts. Now if this still isn't working, then nothing is going to hold it on and I don't even think that welding it directly to the head would work. In which case, you may need to start looking elsewhere for your problem(motor mounts or severe imbalance in the engine).

loctite won't work on exhaust, it'll melt right off. You could use locking 'pinch' nuts though.

I wasn't thinking about the heat. But realistically, there's no reason that just new studs and nuts wouldn't work. If they don't I'd start looking to see what could be causing them to come loose.

Thank you all great info I will look into this problem further you have all been great, much appreciated.
its possible that the threads in the head are shot, then you will need to helicoil them
