Thoughts on this MK4 Supra? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #83828 23 posts Started by Promasta
Not a bad price for a hard top. Does look to be idling a touch high however.
Nice lookin' car.
But too high of km for my liking.
I don't think i'd buy something like this with over 80,000 km

Only some 90,000 miles or so, little over 5,000 miles a year. That's more than appropriate, and for a reasonable price. I'd buy it in a heartbeat money provided. The only thing I don't like about it is the colour.

too expensive for non-turbo. My car is worth more than that and i wouldnt even sell it that high
Supra must be cheaper in Canada than here in the states. You also can get the GT-4. More reasons to move...

My uncle has 2 colt .45s and an m16. Only ****ty part is we cant have fully automatic apparently.
Can't have fully automatic down here either, unless you go and get a bunch of licences and what not for them. Rather have cheaper Supras and GT-4 than guns. I don't like guns.

looking at all the na's on kijiji, the price doesn't seem bad. nice turbos sell for >20k around here.

anyways, 11k would be fine IF it was in great shape, but its not. There is a dent on the rear quarter panel and some paint transfer, the front lip is all ripped up, the inside of the headlight (mirrored part) is ****ed (not really noticeable), there is condensation in the turn light (looks horrible), the oh **** handle in the interior is broke, one of the speakers doesn't work. Has 255s on the front and back (and different brand tires) which is dumb (should be staggered), and therefore there is much more wheel gap in the front.

it was hard to get a good feel for the car because I was focusing on not crashing, driving rhd for the first time, and in rush hour in a strange city lol. but the ride seemed too bumpy for how it was handling (shocks could have been blown, but didn't seem like it). my celica is rough because of the coilovers, but at least its sharp and precise. Not really sure I want a bigger car now. Honestly, this na supra reminded me of a v6 mustang, which isn't good. It must have been faster than my celica but didn't really feel like it. Its still pretty sweet tho, rhd is fun, the stock seats and interior are just awesome, it shifts pretty nice.

I think he would take $9500. Then I could fix the dent, take the lip off completely, new turn lights, fix the oh **** handle and speaker, and get some lowering springs to fix the wheel gap. This should all cost what, like $1k?

Thoughts?
Fix the dent yourself, then a replacement handle and speaker won't cost any more than $100 I'd think. Lowering springs can be gotten for around $200 for some quality springs. Then if you install yourself save money. Turn lights shouldn't be too terribly much. Doing everything yourself I'd say under $500 probably. Should have enough to even get some new tires all for under $1,000. According to KBB an American should expect to pay $14,000 for one in similar shape. Provided everything is good aside from what you've noticed, I'd say go for it. Try and get it cheaper if you can. I know if it were me I'd jump all over it.

Its hard to repy to this cause i know how RHD cars work. And I'm telling you 11k is wayyyyy too much for a non-turbo supra. But if you really want it its always up to you right? Springs wouldnt be the only issue. You'd have to buy all four shocks too remember.

If you think 11k is cheap for a supra you'd be in for a surprise if you were here
I know, I kind of gathered that from this thread. All of the MKIV Supras for around 11K, are either project cars, salvage titles, or a combination of the above. Like I said, I need to move. tongue.gif

OT But you can own full auto in the states and not need a licence, it just depends on the state you live in.

You mean its too much compared to what they sell for in Japan? Because they always sell for this price or more (looking on kijiji/autotrader).

Don't think i'm gonna get it anyways tho, my celica is in way better shape, probably just throw more money into it haha.
Meh, just drop a BEAMS or 3S-GTE into the Celica then. tongue.gif

Browsing Kijiji, I found several hardtop auto's for ~$8k. But this one looks a little better than the others, and I definitely searched different regions of Canada.

a good place to find rhd cars is tradecarview.com, at least just to get an idea of how much jdm cars sell for. then add:

  • 11.1% of vehicle cost for duties & GST
  • add $2500 (exporter fees, freight, terminal fees, temp registration permit, etc.)
  • then add your costs to fly there ($300 by plane) & fuel to drive it back ($400-$450)

the process isn't hard at all, just check out this how-to.

Look around. My brother in law bought a 93 supra na 5spd for 8k. Yep 8k. He bought it off some rich ass dude. Id spend upwards of 20k if I could find a mint low mileage mk4 na 5spd with targa. Just spend money on your celica lol.
-not going to swap engines in the celica. there is no way i could do it myself, so 4k for a clip + at least 3k for labour = 7k+, not near worth it lol

-the auto supras always sell for less than the manuals, no one wants the autos lol.

-thanks azian, but would not import one myself, i would rather see and drive it first, and don't want to deal with the hassle to save a couple thousand dollars.

this is a much better deal lol.
