Hey guys im new to 6gc and i have a few questions...

I have been searching for 2-3 weeks on info on the 3sge Beams Red Top Swap into my ST204 5 speed GT
and from what i understand everything just drops right in place of the 5sfe (correct me if im wrong). My main concern is wiring! Is the
swap plug n play? Or will i need to purchase an engine w/ harnes and ecu?

Reason for the swap: I just picked up my st204 for 650$ With 126k Miles minimal rust and a 8/10 body and completly stock but it has
a snapped timing belt

Reason for choosing 3sge: I want an engine swap that has the power when i need it and the mpg of a N/A engine.

You will need the engine harness & ECU from a Red Top.

I think he was talking about the power steering and ac. You'll need the harness and ecu for the Beams.

BEAMS sounds like the engine for you. Parts can be difficult to source but not too bad. Give me a little bit and I'll post the wiring up for you.

-EA1 plug, pin 17 goes to pin 4. Pin 17 is the bottom left wire, red with a black stripe. Pin 4 is the thick black wire at the top center of the EA1. Pin 17 needs power when pin 4 has it. This gives the BEAMS spark.
-EA1 plug, pins 2 and 12 need to be bridged. Those are ground wires. They need to be spliced together. There should be two wires, parallel to each other. Just bridge them together.
-Clutch start wire- there are 3 vertical plugs next to the ECU. On the body side of the plugs, you have a white (19 pin) plug, light gray (13 pin) plug, and dark gray (17 pin) plug. The clutch start wire is pin 18 on the white plug. Move it to pin 17 on the dark gray plug.
-Cruise control: Contrary to popular belief, no work is necessary for cruise control. It's a standalone system with no wiring related to the motor.
-To get your airbag light to function properly, you run a wire from the EA1 plug to the light gray interior plug (either pin 4 or pin 5, I have read separate posts saying both and I chose not to do this step so I cannot confirm which pin it is.

no the vvt solenoid is different, from the EA1 plug. I posted the pic of each in my thread.

I posted pictures too, but I opted out of posting them here to avoid too much initial confusion.

EA1 plug, pins 4 and 17 bridged, as well as 2 and 12.

The airbags should be on there own separate system. I took all the wiring out in my car and nothing ever went to the ECU.

Can i avoid all the wiring issues with replacing the USDM harness with a JDM harness and ECU?

No. The wiring changes I posted are the changes that need to be made to the JDM wiring harness.

Hey 6gc, ive messaged a couple of you and no response, i know this is an old post but im in the process of doing my BEAMS swap and need some help from you vets

New member here and after extensive reading on the forums for the past couple months I still have a few issues with my 3sge Beams Red Top swap.

So, some background on the status here, have a 96 Celica GT st204 which had a 5sfe, bone stock. Back over summer bought a 98 3sge Beams Redtop approx 50k miles. We did all the major maintenance, timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, belts, fluids etc. The motor is currently installed in the car. However the car does not start, as in the starter wont even turn. Dash lights up and everything but starter wont turn. My guess is its the clutch start wire.

The issue now is that we tried to follow the wiring directions posted on this website, BUT the issue lies with the 3 vertical plugs that are mentioned. The clutch start wire is supposed to be a black with yellow stripe coming from the one of these plugs right? In the pictures shown, there must be at least 15 or so wires coming from the white plug. But on my engine harness that same plug only has 4 or 5 wires coming from it and has no black with yellow striped wire. Matter of fact, there is NO black with yellow striped wire on this harness. Thats my first issue.

Now since that was the case, there was still a solid black wire coming from the pin 18 location on the white plug as shown in the picture, so we moved that wire to the pin 17 location on the dark grey plug as described in the directions. (obviously that did not fix the issue) Not even sure if that is the issue.

This was the only part that did not match the directions, all the wiring directions were spot on, and we took care of those, its just the clutch start wire and plug that was different.

Could you help walk me through this? Your help would be very much appreciated!

Was your car a standard or auto ?

I got your PM, but I just now have some time to respond. Can you post pictures of your plug? You mentioned in the PM that my picture had several wires, but your plug only has a few. The harness I snapped a picture of was from an auto trans, so it had some extra wires that a manual trans harness doesn't have. Both harness should have the black/yellow wire in the same spot though. However, if your BEAMS harness came on an auto trans, there's one extra step necessary before the car will crank. If the harness is from a manual trans, it should be as simple as moving the wire.

look, trace that wire, use a multimeter, toyota is known to change the wire coloring in some years, you will have to test, with a multimeter... look for the clutch switch, check for continuity.

Heres the plug. I will trace the black wire and check for continuity and let you know what i find.

These plugs are off the BEAMS harness and are now located on the passenger side down by the kick panel, can someone pls tell me what they connect to? The USDM harness did not have these
