"Different" swaps - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #82417 31 posts Started by d3ath2009
I am just curious to see what non-ideal motors people have installed, attempted to install, or thought about installing into these cars. i.e.: a diesel/turbo diesel celica... anything different from the normal.
Me an a buddy talked anout droppin a chevy v8 with a caddy trans that was fwd in my old 5gen lol
but it would of been way to much work an could only been done as an auto
Not to mention all the custom parts
Needless to say we scraped that idea

Thats going to be true for most "different" type of motor swaps. If you want it to be one of a kind, youll have to spend some good money.

By "different" i mean something out of the ordinary for these cars.. which pretty much excludes all 4-cyl and v6 swaps.. those are a dime a dozen compared to what im looking for

Anybody ever thought a trying something like a Cummins 4BT swap?
Ill ser if i can find it again
I just watched a vid of a 1uz poweref altrac awhile back an that was crazy to watch

No one has really ever done anything crazy with these cars (6gcs) as they are not a very good platform for it(fwd). There was a drag car, but that was basically just a celica like body and nothing else.
There's a V8 5th gen out there. I think it's fibrewizard's car. Otherwise, there have only been a few 6th gens ce close to a different swap. Hardtarget (http://www.6gc.net/celicas/1998-gt-hatchback-7148) has one, then there's the Pikes Peak Celica and more recently, Johnny Milner's Celica that dominated the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Milner's and Hardtarget's cars are still 3S's and I believe Rod Millen's Pikes Peak Celica is as well, but I've only ever found "TRD prepared 2.1 liter inline four cylinder." I'd love to see some different swaps as well, but I seriously doubt if anybody has put a diesel in one.

i ve been thinking of putting a 2zz on my 95 celica, i got a spare head, harness, ecu and aftermarket header from my blown 2zz. Doesnt seem too hard i know for sure the stock axles will work with both 5spd and 6spd transmission and shifter cables should be easy make them work. Just the mounts and wiring are the most complicated. IN reality iam not even sure if the swap is worth it since i think the 6th gen and 7th gen celica weight about the same ( i think).

I thought about that the other day, wondering if an LSx could be mated to some kind of FWD transmission to make a V8 Celica. Imagine the surprise...and lack of front tire tread.

When i wasthinking about it we desided the easyest way to do a v8 swap was to convert to rwd

Another idea i still want to do is swap a 302 into a festiva lol

I think the newer impala ss we're v8 fwd or the Pontiac grand prix gxp. Another cool idea would be alltrac with a 2gr v6 swap , 300HP NA and awd!

The gxp is fast being in a heavy car stock some of them even came with wider rims in the front to help handle the power
That would be a good swap idea if you wanted to stay fwd
The gr2 would be a awsome engine backed by awd. All that power with no lag or traction problems
That would have to be scary fast

Three I want to see..
1- V6tt awd rhd, porsche fuel cell in trunk
2- mid-engine setup <found celica&mr2 body/frame specs and using a gt4 rear end mr2 mounts and a 3s, I am pretty sure it could be feasible
3- 1 or 2jz (hey if they have a kit to put vq35's into 240's it shouldn't be THAT hard (granted 240's are already rwd, but still...)

why would i do that? im just curious as to what unique swaps have been done/are in the workings.. for example, ive got an old kawasaki mojave that im plannin on swappin a 250 or 500cc ninja motor onto (not a celica idea, but the general idea is there)
I always thought of doing a celica Euro style. Large MPG, small motor, lots of torque.
This means a 1.6 volkswagon TDI motor out of late 80's early 90's jettas, rabbits, and rabbit trucks.
There are i guess quite a few people who have swapped that motor into Suzuki Sidekicks to get a diesel 4x4 with 34mpg. Pretty impressive.
Like anything it would take work, but those engines aren't very hard to come by.

The other Celica idea would be a short range electric car with ~ 40 miles of range. Would take about 8k to do. Batteries are the expensive part. Making the car move isn't that hard. I did all of the calculations and it would take about 15-20k miles for the payoff to be found in fuel savings.
Traces idea isnt bad about electric but i think it could work better with maybe a small gas motor that could be used intown the the electric kicks in at cruising speed. An maybe replace the sun roof with a solar panel to help keep the batteries charged longer
The big desiding factor would be the batteries you used
An the type of electic motor. You used
Ive given this some thought when i was into electric rc's really big
But never priced it out tho

How about a B18c swap into a Celica. Now that will make it interesting race with Honda/Acura Car with B18c.
I once planned to put a 7afe on a go kart. You know what happened? Reality.

I nvr seen what was so amazing about a b swap unless it was in a,light little hatch
It could be fun but not as good as in a honda hatch

the gas mileage would be unreal!

I wonder if tweak would make a custom harness for it?! LOL
right im sure if i had the right amount of money i could get the local tdi guru to do it for me. hes swapping in a tdi motor with 345 tq into a r32 MkIV golf if someone puts up the money but hes asking 9k just for the car not the swap
In high school me and my friends put a 350 in a Chevette.
