Hey everyone, so my 5th gen celica has been leaking oil from the dipstick out for a while now. My worry is that it is a bad piston ring. However:

1. The PCV wasn't even there, and its vacuum was plugged.

2. Positive Crankcase Ventilation hose was clogged too. [hose below]


-I have replaced the PCV and removed the plug from the crank case hose.

-I turned the car on but couldn't take it for a spin, but for the while it was on it didn't spew any oil out.

-There is no weird noises coming from the engine at all.

Valve seals? Piston rings? The rubber on the dipstick is missing a chunk on the very bottom of it, too. There was oil on the boot of spark plug #1 (one closest to the dist) No oil on the rest.

Any ideas?

with no ventilatin of the crankcase the normal blowby will cause oil/gasses to escase elsewhere (seals, gaskets, etc)

look for smoke coming out of the tailpipe thats a tell tale sign your rings are gone

There's no oil coming out of the tail pipe. There's the pre-cat and the muffler on the exhaust.

you were getting blowby thats why it was coming out the dipstick.

Well most certainly, but caused by what? The vent hose covered?

Yeah, as stated before, those being clogged meant that there is no where for gasses and pressure to escape. Therefore it has to find a place to seep out. Normally oil will come out of the dipstick with the engine running if the dipstick is out, but it shouldn't push past both o-rings. I'd take the ring to a parts store and purchase a new one for you dipstick. Should be good now that you replaced the PCV and positive vac hose.

Oil on the bottom of the boot can be from a bad seal on the base of the sparkplug tube, or the gasket up top could be allowing a bit to eep over the top of the tube and down the walls.

The seal up top (where the valve cover nuts go) was practically gone (I could pick out a chunk of rubber). So I got all 4 new seals and a new valve cover gasket. I'll be doing that soon.

What should I do to remove the oil on the spark plug? Let it burn out of the system naturally?
