how can you tell the diff between the s53 and s54? it mayb a noob question but when i was doing my swap iwas looking for marking on the trans but didnt see anything. according to my friend who use to import b4, remembered that it came off a 3rd gen 3sge. i belive when im in 5th gear im 2 about 3k rpms.

94-99 celica engines came with S54 transmissions. S53 is used on 88 to early 90 camry's. 90-93 celica's use the s53 transmission. I don't think their is a stamp on the transmission anywhere. If you unsure oh which one you have use this.

then look up the gear ratio's for the s54 and s53 and see what numbers come closest to your actual speedometer reading. I'd suggest using an gps app on your phone to see how fast your going.
