old 2nd gen setup, out.

new rear main seal installed:

the 3rd gen, tranny installed and just about ready to drop in:

it goes in later today.

here is somthing i noticed when i pulled the axles, his passanger axle is thicker than a normal s54 axle, i havent had a chance to ask eli about it, but ill try and get more details.
the drivers side is normal.

his passanger axle is the bottom one, the top one is a old one i had in the garage.

Interesting. Could it be that it came from some other Toyota model with an S54?

I'ts an aftermarket axle. I have them in my car. They are actually brand new axles made by a company (i think its Cardone) that sell for the same price as rebuilds. I have them in my car and they are really nice.

That's a shame to hear that you don't enjoy doing this anymore, Manny. I understand though, it's more fun to work on your own cars than someone else's. Jenn's car is finished and yours is a DD, so that leaves you with swapping other member's cars. Eli has left his car with the right guy, and I hope this won't be the last JDM Guy Garage swap. Do you still enjoy doing body work?

Eli, I'd love to know how you think the 3rd gen 3S compares to the 2nd gen. Do you have any plans for the car after the swap?

No specific plans for the 3rd gen yet, Dan. Its just going to be a daily driver as before. The only change is going to be that i will store it during the winter months as i have an suv for the winters now. I have been looking at Mines ECUs but they are kinda pricey. Will wait till i see something decent. Also looking at some 17X8s wheels as well.
I will definitely do a first drive impression as compared to the 2nd gen. I have always wondered about the difference.

17x8 is a fantastic choice, I'd love a set myself. RPF-1 would be my choice.

+1 on more insight after a 2nd-to-3rd gen conversion.

VB, I think it is moreso that Manny probably tired a little of the 6GC game, I presume. Understandable.

When you're the best there is, it gets boring sometimes. Sad but true. When you've done every motor swap in the book, and you've got it down to a science, and the envelope has already been pushed, I understand wanting a new challenge. About the only thing you have left to do is full on awd, and even then, screwing with a subaru might be easier.... Don't short yourself though man, the information that you alone have provided to this community is astounding, and you should be proud of all the awesome custom work you've done and all of the noobs you've owned because of your experience.

On a side note, I'm really interested in seeing if there is any discernible driving difference between the motors given how similar they are to one another.
