idea for a low buck coilovers - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #81166 12 posts Started by kurt95gt
ok this is my idea I haven't hitting the parts to try it yet but it make sence in my head

could I use a set of front struts from a civic since there basically just a cartage an the cut the bottom half off the factory celica strut to make the sleeve for the cartage
it sounds like a good low buck setup to me since honda parts are cheap an they have the right perch for coilovers
any thoughts comment would be great

I've been looking into this setup on superstrut suspension only because no company makes good racing coilovers for superstrut equipped vehicles.

Honestly it would take trial and to get a setup like this using different parts from different companys. I've looked and looked but no company makes struts a little bit shorter than our stock suspension. They are either too long or too short. Our Mcpherson geometry hinders us from making our own coilovers.

Just buy Megan coilovers for $950 and be done with it. Trust me I've looked and looked all over the place calling just about every suspension company here in the USA and its gotten me no where. There is a company over in malaysia that does custom coilovers but they will run you over $1,500 easily and are meant for racing setups...

BC coilovers man... Best coilovers in that price range ... Definately worth the 995... Comparable to higher end coilovers

ok does anyone see a reason why this couldn't work
if it does I could have as little as maybe 300 bucks
I know they wont predominantly as good as the high end stuff but it should get the job done

you can try all you'd like but the main thing if finding a shock thats the same height as the trd coilover inserts in which they don't exist. atleast not here in america.

megan coilovers/same as bc coilovers besides the spring rates allow for full adjust-ability and the best price range without having to go through the headeache of finding parts for your custom setup.

do some reading about Suspension Geometry, dont just put parts together that will bolt up, you need to make sure you keep the stock geometry or the car will handle like total cr@p

as long as you make it the right length / angles, is a good idea, you can weld a piece of threaded pipe to make up for a shorter shock and bring it to the right length, and use the threaded pipe to adjust the coilover spinning the whole assembly to keep the rebound
thanks for the tips an the threaded pipe idea is a good one
im planning on using the celica top cap an the bottom of the strut for mounting them in hopes that ill br able to stay at the same stock specs as the stock strut

seems like a lot of hassle rather than just paying the one that fits your car.
