Idle Air Control Valve.... - 6G Celicas Forums

forced engineers!
Is the IACV, under the throttle body, if so, is it a sensor, or can someone give me some detail on what it looks like, because I know the TPS is on the right of the throttle body if you were lookin at it straight on from the front of our cars, then there is the other sensor on the bottom left of it, but dont recall whats under the throttle body, is the IACV directly under it, or on the bottom of it???????
thanx for some details, peace,
yes its under the TB. its mounted on the bottom and has a 3 wire plug on it. there are also 2 coolant lines on it. it a valve that allows less air in when the engine is cold so it runs richer. Its similar to an automatic choke. when the engine warms up it lets more air in.

try not to round those screws, they are sensitive. clean out your IAC real good and your car will run smoother. if you mess up the screws just use a long nose vice grip, to turn it, once its loose use your fingers. also have spare screws matching for it. GL!

Thanx for the detail Smaay, I should have no troubles now, I hope this is the reason why my car doesnt like to idle on initial start-up in the morning until it warms up for 3-4 minutes, then idles perfect....TRD thanx for the caution on the screws, I will have long nose vice grips ready at my side, regular carb cleaner with a clean rag should take care of it right?? smile.gif
yeah thats all you need. as for the screws use a real good #2 screwdriver and alot of downforce. they are a soft brass screw and love to strip out.

an impact screwdriver (harbor freight has em for under 10$) is your best friend with those screws for the IAC.
chances are you'll strip at least one of them out before you get em loose without it, i've yet to strip one with it.

I was experiencing the exact same issue, I changed the fuel filter and took off the top mount intercooler and shot carb cleaner via a straw down in the hole leading to the iacv. Now it idles up on the 1st cold start like it should and not run bad or cut out at all. So far that is smile.gif also sprayed the carbon built up around the butterfly in the throttle body

impact helped for 2 but also messed up 2 for me entirely. its also good to use a screw bit that attached to a 1/4 ratchet have used this method on other cars.

Cax, it does kinda work but is not the best, i've tried that too, didn't work its best till i removed the IAC entirely and cleaned it.
